Just had a sobering and disappointing conversation with an orthopaedic surgeon about my wrist.

I broke it about 17 years ago whilst at work, was told by a Dr it was just a sprain and didn't need an X-Ray. Turns out it was broken. One broken bone is now three, I have arthritis, have been living with it for years, and my ulna is being pushed out of place. I'm in quite a lot of pain and have very limited movement.
They are talking about fusing the bones and making it one solid joint, which is quite a daunting prospect.

And they have no idea when they can do this due to the current situation. And my boss still wants me to work 10 hours a day!! Despite me telling him I am in constant pain.  >:(

Sorry to hear of your problem Chris; To my mind surgery would be the very last option.

Have you visited a Professional Sports injury Physiotherapist (boxing club etc.)with the X-rays? They may be able to guide you through exercises to lessen the pain, as well as treating the Arthritic aspect with Sonic wave machine or Cortisone etc.?.

Steve, Andy, thank you. Appreciate your words and thoughts.

There was talk of injections but the specialist I spoke to yesterday suggested that surgery was the only real option. But I would be keen to avoid that. Everything is on hold at the moment so will sit it out for now.

And I try to keep the wife away from my camera Oldboy!
May the Force be with you.

So sick of this whole covid thing and holiday bookings. We were on such a cusp for a Madrid / Salamanca trip that things are awkward. Easyjet agreed to free switch of flights to next may which we thought easier than trying to get a refund. Properties we`d booked were only available on a non-cancellation basis at time of booking way back at the end of last year and thought not to be a problem. I`ve managed to get one switched to next year but it seemingly costs more to stay in may than June / July. Another only agreed to issue a voucher  with a warning property will cost more but they are closed for a month. The third are totally refusing to talk to me ! Add to that that the balance is due for a September Madeira trip with Portugal just having been ruled out of the air bridge arrangements and I`m thinking how much will I lose? My insurance company are saying that they will not cover losses due to Covid and virtually no companies are. Buck passing. I`m happy to re-arrange dates throughout to help keep businesses in trade but wouldn`t mind a bit more cooperation back!

Did you pay for the trips on a credit card then they are jointly liable and therefore, claim off the credit card. This applies to all things booked or brought by Credit Card. As for insurance companies they will use any excuse not to pay out. Check the small print on your policy and if unsure pass it to the insurance ombudsman who will fight your corner. Don't take the rejection as the final word. Keep pressing and you might be surprised.

It's throwing my summer too. I switched photography for ballroom dancing and was going on a dancing weekend in Bournemouth this month; the hotel kindly switched the whole package to the same dates next year. Only the deposit was paid.
I had booked a cruise just before the Government decided it was better for us oldies not to cruise for the time being, so I cancelled. P&O is holding my deposit for a next cruise.
I was going on a week's holiday in Slovenia (dancing again) at the end of August, and am convinced the holiday will be cancelled, but the tour company is not very forthcoming, and has not been in touch at all. I asked them months ago, if there were any plans to try and re-arrange this trip for next year. They were not keen, hiding behind contractual obligations, but I am sure a deal could have been struck with the hotel and airline.
As the balance was due on June 12, I cancelled and lost my deposit, which now became a 'cancellation charge.' For me a price worth paying for peace of mind, as I simply dare not risk flying at this time. I think the tour company could have done more and am not impressed.
And of course my annual trip to the Motherland at this time of year cannot go ahead. In this case only the regular hotel was booked, so no problems there.

See my reply to Jinky about paying on a credit card. If you did then claim off them.

I cancelled, so I cannot claim!
I could have paid the balance, and I would have had all the money back (ABTA) if the holiday was eventually cancelled by the tour company, but I did not want to risk it. If they had somehow found a way to let the holiday go ahead, I would not have enjoyed it.

A few of the credit card companies are not playing ball with section 75 with holidays saying the company has to be pursued. It`s unchartered territory with so many companies on the brink of going bust and covid being claimed  as  a force majeure. I`m more relaxed about my madeira trip as even if it doesn`t go ahead was booked on one card as one holiday. the Spanish trip was a mix of air tickets and 3 different accommodations booked separately by me , one even being below the threshold for section 75 anyway. having tried to help them by re-arranging to next year has probably made my position tougher as now some have said OK and one steadfastly saying "we`re open - not our fault you`re not able to come.

I'm not sure they can do that. Under the terms of the consumer credit act they have no choice in the matter. It's their job to chase the company not yours. That's the whole point in paying with a credit card.  8)

Sorry Oldboy, yes they can - in fact they have no obligation whatsoever to pay unless or until it can be established absolutely that the original supplier cannot refund - easy if the company is insolvent, in which case the card provider takes on the right to pursue the debt with the trustee or managers of the CVA. Depending on the service/goods not being delivered the period during which the provider has to respond varies depending on the remedy sought - refund, reimbursement, or specific performance.

So in order to have a successful claim against the credit card company you have to establish 1) a breach of contract and 2) failure/refusal to rectify that breach within a reasonable amount of time, often 30 days.

Good luck!

Another holiday bites the dust!  :'(  My last hope of getting abroad this year was to be a week in Madeira in September. The flights are going , the hotel is open but the company I paid my deposit to has gone bust! Friends we are going with had paid in full but we`d paid 2/3rds after a messaging experience on their facebook page left me with concerns and they gave me wriggle room. No problem anyway money wise as it is ATOL protected so just waiting for the claim form to materialise but so annoying. never mind - already booked an alternative week in Cornwall with the same friends - what could possibly go wrong?

The claim on the credit card rules may be different in France, but in the UK you can claim against the Credit card company directly without going to the company. It's in the consumer credit act. No if's or but's. That's the whole point of paying by credit card.

What a pain!
Sorry to hear this but good news that you can get tie money back.
We are going to Cornwall tomorrow. Looking forward to the break but it is with some trepidation.
May the Force be with you.

Have a great time and fully relax. Should be fairly quite on the roads as most people are staying local.
