Some low life has cloned my bank card and emptied my account. The result is that direct debits were not paid and I'm now having to contact all the people I owe money to and pay the outstanding balances. Not amused. Right on the doorstep of Christmas too!  >:( :knuppel2:

Bl**dy hell, that's awful.

Hopefully the bank's fraud team will be looking at any restaurants or service stations where you have used your card before it was cloned. Those are the most likely places it could have been cloned - those or some pop up stall somewhere.

Makes me grateful for Barclays stopping my card after two small 'uncharacteristic' purchases this week. They were my transactions, but it goes to show that maybe over sensitive fraud prevention algorithms are not such a bad thing.

I hope they get caught and you get your money back. Our thoughts are with you and yours Chris.

That`s terrible!  Do the bank not have any protections in place for emptying accounts? Hope it all gets sorted out for you asap and you don`t lose out!

Horrible!

Hope it will be resolved soon. And I too thought banks had protection measures in place.

My husband once got a phone call from the bank, to check where he was, as someone in Pasadena was trying to get money on his card. In his case it was cloned at a supermarket. (Asda.)

It's the last thing you need this time of year. It could be a skimmer device attached to a ATM machine which you might not have noticed. Hope the bank reimburse you.  >:(

I once had the bank call me about a small transaction on my credit card which surprised me, as on the day before I brought something on it that cost £2,000 plus and they didn't questioned that?  ???

What gets me is how easy a card is to use  for online purchases. never seemed right that the 3 digit security number needed is "hidden" in full view of anyone who has the card on the back. One ex-thief I saw being interviewed said he felt safe only by having one card for emergency use preferring cash as a norm. O getting the card he obliterates the 3 digit number on the bag after memorising it. I`d do it myself but know what would happen! I have a couple of safety features in play for online spend like getting one off codes from banks / Paypal  / having to supply 3 elements of a password but still had my bank phone me about 2 transactions for less than £3 in USA the other week. Like Oldboy I`d had much bigger , unusual payments go out days earlier without questions. Evidently scammers try small amounts first to see if they get through the bank advised.

You have to supply parts of a password to the card provider before the purchase is approved. Always use a credit card for online purchases as this gives you protection for anything over £100.

Yes if your card provider does that service. What I should have said is by phone rather than online. You can find a card and order on the phone without giving additional passwords and all the info you need is on the card.

Thanks all.

I'm very careful about my card and bank details and am always wary when using it. I guess they were better than me this time.
To be fair, Lloyds have been excellent and I now have all the money back which is great, and my new bank card has arrived too.
I've now got the aggravation of working out what wasn't paid that should have been. This isn't helped as O2 have cut my phone off, despite telling me my balance was paid and I didn't owe any money!
May the Force be with you.

Glad your bank sorted things for you, now just enjoy Christmas and the New Year.

On Christmas morning actually: I fumbled putting the flashgun on the camera in a confined space, and it fell to the ground. Completely and utterly ruined. The lens broke, the wide angle and bounce screens flew off and the foot got bent. I managed to realign the foot to get it back on the camera, but the strobe now fires with random power levels, even on manual.

The model isn't made any more, and the cheapest the equivalent replacement model is available for is £299 in the sales. So now I have no flash gun and no prospect in the foreseeable future of replacing it. Ar*e.
