I used to have a moped when I was younger......hair dryer on two wheels.....then I had a go on my wifes' nephew  dirt bike....took to it like a duck to water......I sometimes think 2 wheels are my calling....I've got a licence/driven everything else.....trucks, vans, forklifts, cars, mopeds.......Maybe the wife will let me have a Trike....
Never argue with a stupid person, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Mark, I agree with you, it makes no sense at all. If there is some residual 2 stroke oil going out of the exhaust then surely that would just shorten the life of the cat or particulate filter or both.

Think I'll stick to just cleaning the injectors  ;)

PS, hope your new turbo isn't too expensive.

Matt, lose the trike idea - worst of both worlds - exposed to the weather, but too wide to lane slip . . .

Hi Howard, there are lots of reports from South Africa about the benifits of 2SO - and that it helps the cat - though they have crap fuel which can knacker the cats and the over heat the turbo. I'm also told you have to use FC rated oil if you have a particulate filter - I don't.

Mind you they also suggest dumping the cat - which I'd like to do on mine - as it doesn't do anything that doesn't happen naturally - its just quicker (seconds with, couple of weeks without) Only actually useful if you have smog issues - like California. Oh, and a cat reduces fuel consumption!

And they are now looking at harvesting the rare elements from the roads, some much has been chucked out the back of exhausts!

The 2SO is meant to clean the injectors - not sure how you clean them without taking them out - which is not something that I would want to do on my engine - as they have a habit of sticking in - needing the heads off to drill them out!

Cost of the Turbo? Land Rover wanted £2700 fitted - which they remove the body to do it - not as bad as it sounds actually - but the Indi that is doing it, does it in situ, so is about a grand less. Should find out tomorrow.

I found out.

Turbo is in, but there is something wrong with the engine. :'( Not good news at all. New engine is worst case scenario - which is not cheap - in fact you could buy a new small car for the cost.

Not sure if the engine broke taking the turbo out in the first place or whether it was something else. Will find out soon enough as there is money involved. :-\

Fingers crossed it's not terminal.

That new small car could start to sound rather attractive otherwise.

It can be difficult to chose when to stop spending money on a vehicle that starts expensively playing up. I didn't get it right with my 4x4 - almost as soon as I had fixed the motor the gearbox went, then the transfer box, then the water pump - that was when I sold it to a dealer . . and bought the old A Class with the proceeds.

I have a large caravan which I tow - so need a big car - and I off-road it too, so it has to be something that can do both - which the Disco does very well.

Unfortunately no update today as the garage has a workshop full of cars and this was un-expected.

I do have some options, but selling is high on the list at the moment as the cost to change would be more than the cost to repair.

I feel your pain. Once a vehicle is needing a major repair it's dilema for me. Keep it and hope nothing else big breaks or dump it and maybe give some stranger a perfectly reliable vehicle that lasts for years. Mostly, when they start costing money like that, I just want to dump them. Then again, the kind of money your talking about pretty much chains you to the vehicle for years to come.  :(
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Queued for half an hour in the rain to see the only showing of Skyfall in English hereabouts only to be turned away four from front of the queue as the cinema was full.

So that's that  :'(

As a tribute, you should have made your way into the theatre in true Bond style, preferably down through a skylight :)

Don, obviously I had same idea, but my better half bottled it, honest.

Graham, all I can say to that is 1) I didn't fancy yours much and 2) the genital surgery Mrs H would perform with blunt spoon doesn't bear thinking about.

Did two India visa applications at the weekend - on each for me and my wife. I was warned it was horrendous - all online and then backed up with signed copies together with precise photo demands (bigger than standard). All seemed straightforward and after taking my time with mine first I whizzed through my wife's. Yesterday they email me saying I must supply a declaration stating purpose of visit and how long in India - clearly statred tourist visa in dropbox online and how long I`d be there. Did a letter and sent it pointing out nowhere in the application process had this been requested nor was it on their checklist. Today I get an email saying mine will take a little longer and my wife's arrives in the post complete with visa stamp! ??? Both filled in same day with same info and mine submitted an hour earlier. Ah well roll on February (assuming they let me in). They are very thorough and bureaucratic - they seem to be scared everyone is going to illegally encamp there and outstay their welcome  ::)

Were there any questions about your intentions to open either a newsagents or a chemist whilst you were there?

Hope you enjoy your visit. Until the end of last week brother-in-law and family lived in Mumbai; they hated it, mostly. Now the are Kuala Lumpur and loving it.

Unfortunately I am still using my kidneys so won't be visiting them  :(

No but I think they didn`t like that I was going to start up a taxi service with my bike and an old cart.

I`m aiming to have a good time H - though we seem to be getting different advice to two other people I know who are travelling to India and getting way more jabs than we are. Might yet get on our tour of France in May so keep the front door bolted. ;)
