Places which ask you not to use your mobile with no good reason :knuppel2:

Have you tried taking your laptop/fondleslab to a cafe or shop with free wi-fi?

Does your 'phone have wi-fi? Here everyone who didn't opt out has their home router available to passers-by as a wi-fi hot spot. So I don't ever use 3G on my 'phone for data, I always get it from a handy hotspot, or not at all.

No, didn't take it to a wi-fi place; too much lugging around. There are two 'hotspots' available from my desk, but neither worked.
People round here tend to have security enabled connections, so no 'piggy backing.'

My phone is simply a phone, for making/receiving calls and texts. It doesn't even have a camera. (Took me ages to find one without a camera!)

The connection is back, but the wi-fi to my laptop is horrendously slow. Fingers crossed it will improve soon; at the moment I'm playing Spider Solitaire while waiting for connections to materialize. Especially photos are very very slow to upload or view.

I use my iPhone connected to a laptop when we are up at the lake.  It provides a very speedy and reliable internet connection.  I even connect to work over a VPN for hours at a time.

I'm too tight to pay for 3G :)  So I've never even considered using my 'phone as wireless hotspot.

WAMT? Well yesterday actually. There was a storm and the power went off - as you can tell, it's back now. Thank Honda for their reliable generators.

Expecting a really important phone call, and when the phone finally rings, to hear a heavily accented voice say: "Miss xxy? (never pronounced the right way), this is Michael from Microsoft Technical Something, we have had a warning ..."

Today's cycling madness. Dark clothes, but at least a front light. Which was good as he was cycling down the middle of a one way street. The wrong way, obviously.

WAMT...   Royal Mail  ( or Dick Turpin Mail ).   I had to send a disk of images to a PR Company in Manchester from a job I had done for them during the week. I often travel to Manchester on business from time to time and know it is 27 miles away from my base in Leyland. The Company had asked if I could let them have the images by Friday so I told them I would pop it in the Post  ' First Class '.
Assuming it would cost slightly more than a standard letter ( A Jiffy Bag containing one disk and dual case with a A4 Invoice folded in half ) I was surprised when I was told that 1 st Class Post did not guarantee
next day delivery but 1st Class signed for would at a cost.  By 9.00 am next day £ 8.68  or  £ 6.32 by 1.00 pm next day.  I reluctantly opted for 1.00 pm delivery. Is it any wonder the Post Office say they are loosing business to private couriers. I know I won't be using Royal Mail again.. >:(

Thats shocking ???

ABERS

I don't think the relatively short distance comes into it Dave. If you were sending it to Plymouth it would have cost you the same, a bit more of a bargain then perhaps!

How much would a 54 mile round trip cost in petrol, and your valuable time of course.

I have a similar annoyance but with U.S. post. Tried to send a money order to a little apt. owner down in Fla. to book an apt. for a weeks stay in mid Nov. Sent it Registered Mail so it could be tracked. It's been tracked alright, right to U.S. Customs who are holding it for some strange reason. I contacted the apt. owner and she tells me she ran into this before with a customer from Germany. U.S. Customs held the letter for 30 days before returning it to Germany.  :o

That seems quite relative this day and age Dave. A few weeks back we had to pay 29.00Euros for a timed next day; to send a spare locker key so my son could have clean clothes, as the locker had accidently shut with the key inside.

Gee didn't Top Gear show that the Royal Mail was faster than James May and Richard Hammond driving in shifts from one end of the UK to the other?  What?  You mean that was staged?  You don't say?  :)

WAMT........... Trick or Treat  :knuppel2: Every year we get kids at the door with parents in the background smiling at there little wonders who for me are a pain in the arse. I always try to tell the parents that we are British and Halloween is a American tradition which has nothing to do with us but they never listen, Probably the parents think we are part of America. Does anyone know that tomorrow is All Saints Day ?. I bet not.
I know you may seem to think I am going over the top with this but I do hate Americanisms, ...Not Americans in general.  Anyway rant over.
