Independent price comparison service uSwitch.com has revealed that some of the major phone companies are charging customers for December usage at the new rate of VAT (20%) even though the calls and texts were made before the rise came into force. The site is urging both mobile and landline customers to check their January bills carefully.

So, if you find your phone company has overcharged you, what can you do?

Most phone companies charge monthly line rental and call package fees in advance, so most customers will find that their December line rental has already been billed at a rate of 17.5% VAT.

Hidden costs
However with calls, texts and data usage outside of your package it seems that things aren't as straightforward. According to uSwitch, Orange, Three and T-Mobile as well as landline provider Virgin Media all charged a flat rate of 20% on usage over the December-January period.

By contrast, O2, BT, Sky, Vodafone and TalkTalk have split customer bills, charging 20% VAT on all calls made from 4th January and 17.5% for anything before the rise came into force.

Just killed one of my cheap flashguns :'(
Quite a pop, made me jump. Not the end of the world as the power adjustment stopped working ages ago & it would only work on full power, now off to Ebay for a replacement.

Got a phone call at 8 this morning from the wife saying that my car has gone bang and will you go out to pick it up whilst she uses the other car. Luckily it was only about half a mile away and on getting to it I lifted the bonnet and everything seemed in order, started it up and all seemed okay, put it into gear no problem then turned it round to discover a clanging sound and the smell of rubber. Got it home and took the wheel off and found the coiled spring on the suspension had snapped in two. Now waiting for a pick up to the garage. Just what I didn't need a week before I set off for Tobago. Had to get the motorcycle out. Not ridden it for nearly 12 months. Just as well I keep it taxed and insured.
BOOZE!!! Helping ugly people have sex.

I blame the speed humps for that as that happened to my boss, his coil springs snapped on his SAAB and he blames it on the speed humps and he doesn't go over them at speed ever as he knows the damage it can do....

WANMT got ads with the jobcentre for some positions we have available the ads clearly state must be able to communicate effectively...getting calls from people "I am phoning for my friend/mum/brother" why aren't they phoning I ask...."Because they don't speak English" comes the inevitable reply....sorry can't employ them due to Health & Safety reasons such as not being able to read COSHH data sheet etc....which part of "must be able to communicate effectively" don't people understand....

Come now, the ad didn't say communication had to be in English....did it?  :uglystupid2:

Hotmail. Apparently there's some problem with Hotmail implementing HTML5. Articles I read talked about conflicts with Firefox Beta 4 and of course the conspiracy theory of MS vs. Mozilla. BUT!!!, I'm using a Mac running Safari and the damn glitch or whatever it is, is causing the whole browser to lock up. I've switched back to using my Win 7 and Firefox where Hotmail goes into a continuous loop, but at least the browser still will open new tabs and keep working.
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Well on saturday really
THE BLOODY WEATHERI was given a job to do in Centre Point in Oxford street. I get there and told it was on the 33rd floor. Fantastic I thought I should be able to get some great shots over London but when I get up there I cant see more than 1/4 of a mile cos of the rain and gloom :(
I will say there is a terrific restaurant with a lovely menu which will only set you back about £300 for dinner for 2(plus drinks) if you have any xmas money leftover ;D

The primary cause of rickets is a vitamin D deficiency.[3] Vitamin D is required for proper calcium absorption from the gut. Sunlight, especially ultraviolet light, lets human skin cells convert Vitamin D from an inactive to active state. In the absence of vitamin D, dietary calcium is not properly absorbed, resulting in hypocalcaemia, leading to skeletal and dental deformities and neuromuscular symptoms, e.g. hyperexcitability. Foods that contain vitamin D include butter, eggs, fish liver oils, margarine, fortified milk and juice, and oily fishes such as tuna, herring, and salmon.

Just change your diet!  :2funny:

My copy of this weeks AP still hasn't turned up so I phoned them, they've said they couldn't collect the direct debit and they wrote to me which is why I haven't received....checked the bank account online with them on the phone...the money was taken on the 04/02 and there is no sign of it being returned......so either they're lying or there has been some really weird cock up at the banks end (which I don't think is the case)....bloody subscriptions...and I wanted to see if my shot had made it onto the shortlist for the APOY comp (which I don't think it will have).....

Incumbent telecoms - France Telecom to be precise.

We live in the countryside, until this weekend some 7kms from the nearest broadband hub. So we have the slowest broadband possible. 512kbps.

As there were quite a few villages and hamlets in the same boat and France Telecom wouldn't upgrade the service on the grounds that it was not economically viable, our county council paid to have a new hub installed. This hub is 500m from our house.

What annoyed me is that even though France Telecom didn't pay for this hub, we did through our council tax, I cannot get my broadband speed upgraded for at least two more months unless I sign up with them. This is allegedly because of 'testing'. Strange then, that one of my neighbours who is signed up to France Telecom saw his broadband speed increased to 6mbs plus on Friday, without even having to ask them for an upgrade.

Maybe that's part of the "testing". B*st*rds.
