ABERS

Andrew

1 body, 1 lens, 1 flash gun, 1 tripod, 1 cable release & 1 filter. Keeping it simple!
(I lied, just got a second lens!)

My edit of today. Sadly I have not been very active with the camera lately, as I'm drowning in an ever wider river of official paperwork.
I'm struggling, but do have help.
Luctor et emergo, I hope.

Occasionally I do get out though, and this is one I took on my last walk through town, with a photographer friend.
Tried several 'versions' but decided to go 'low key,' for more impact.

Just a little fiddling to try and make a mundane pic a little less mundane (perhaps)

Abers, I really love this effect. Can you point me in the direction of any decent tutorials for it?

Sorry DD I should have said Redfield. Here's the link.

Thanks Alan. I couldn't find it either.

I'm suffering from a total lack of will power at the moment. In stead of tackling yet more paperwork and some house cleaning, I find myself studying brochures for fitted kitchens and floor coverings (so much more fun!), and now, spurred on by this thread, editing two images I shot in Holland.

I've been playing with the software, and cannot remember what exactly I did, so I won't be able to repeat the process. This makes them unique, I suppose.
Real 'Art'?

I'm going to break the rules and put both up.

I commented on this image in the gallery, so without being repetitious I'll make somewhat similar remarks here. It's only an opinion but I think the background detracts from what is a super B+W in respect of shapes and tones. If you get rid of the background by either blacking it out entirely or toning it down considerably and applying some gaussian blur the bottles will leap out of the picture displaying what I think (know) caught your eye.

The foreground also takes the eye and perhaps cropping it up to the base of the bottles may help.

Hope you don't mind my blathering but I think there is a super image within the frame and it just needs teasing out .

Reinardina

You can blather as much as you like, as long as it's worthwhile blather. I'm not keen on 'blathering without saying something.'

Thanks for this particular blather by the way. As I said in the comment section with the photo, the brickwork was hardly noticeable in the original colour shot. And I haven't got a clue which filter 'brought it out,' so I can't go back and do it again.

I have already had a go at blurring the bricks, but the result is not overwhelming. It needs more blur.

Haven't tried a totally black background yet; that might be just the thing. I will have a go at it this weekend, if I don't get distracted!

I had already cropped part of the foreground, but you are probably right and just the bottles would work better.

Thanks for the advice. Always welcome.

While I also think there is a good image to be 'teased out', I tend to think that blacking out the background is not the way to go, as that will remove the roots to all the shapes and light, caught and refracting in the bottles.

Any suggestions Andy?

I'll play around with it a bit more, later this weekend, and see what I can come up with.
But I have (plenty) of other things to do first!
