Simple

LOL, I have had this lens for years and never realised there was a lock button for the aperture.
THANKS Oldboy.

oRGie

out of curiosity, whats the lock for ?

Simple

It locks the Aperture at the smallest opening f22. As with most lenses with an aperture ring, this is the setting required for the camera to control the aperture.

Now then, after 643 mental breakdowns,it turns out this lens aint what it says on the tin,,its a bloody Pentax fit !!
So,tomorrow morning i shall be materialising in Js,,not sure what they can do,they have however told me that the Bigma has now been discontinued,,,,,,
I will let you know how this pans out,,just hope it hasnt had any detrimental effect on my beloved D300.

It's still listed on Sigma's website, and that has been redesigned in the past four weeks.  ;D

Hewwo from chilly Sheffy,,,,

Thing is,,as far as Js are concerned, there are no more of this particular lens,,and,,this issue is far from closed,,,,when it finaly returns, and IF its in good nick,i will be saying to Js that they still sold me an inferior quality item,,,then we shall see,,,,,
Also,,i would struggle to get it at the price that Js were selling it at,,,,,,many hundreds of pounds less than anywhere else.

Hewwo from very annoyed Sheffy,

I,m almost sorry to drag this post back to life, however, today i got a letter from Js informing me that the lens was "damaged due to Barrel Impact, and the CHARGEABLE cost of repair is £159.78",
you can probably guess my feelings regrding this, fact is,this damn lens was sent to Js in Sheffy from Js Plymouth, and was faulty the moment i took it from the box.
So,i went straight to the shop, where the lady who sold me the lens was not at all impressed, and phoned her RBM,who informed her that i HAD to take a refund,,,,which i refused.
Ive told them i want a replacement, that i dont think it rerasonable to put the onus for any fault on me,and i now wish for all communication re this issue to be in writing only.
Me thinks i will end up taking this to court, ive not even started on the effect this has had on my business,,ie not being able to work in the way i wished due to the damn lens being duff,,,,
So,though i have sympathy with the staff at Js Sheffy,,,,,,its now an adversarial issue !
Just thought you would all like to know,i will post as and when things do or dont move.

Sounds like an absolute nightmare Bill. No wonder you couldn't find the usual Nikon controls on the lens itself - all the Pentax gubbins are in the camera body; I'm amazed that the bayonet fitted.

I don't think you will have hurt your body, other than making it upset about not being able to talk to the lens.

I've got my fingers crossed for you that you get the resolution that you want (and deserve, quite frankly).

Under the Sale of Goods Act they have to give you a full refund. No ifs no buts so the RBM was talking out of his/her A*se. As you couldn't use the lens with your camera, i.e. wrong fittings, I think they may have a problem to say you damaged the lens. Speak to the people at your local CAB who will take to case up for you if required.

Thanks to all for the above,,,,,i,m TOTALY cheesed off with all this,,,,just want a bloody 500mm lens for less than coast of a a good 2nd hand car,,,,,
However,,,,the BIG q,,can i force them to provide a replacement(they claim there are none,ie they have been discontinued) or do i HAVE to accept a refund-which i dont want to do,they sold it to me for £700,,cheapest replacement i can find is over a grand-which i think is the route cause of the problem,,,,,ive always spoken up for Js,,,,errrm,,,,,,maybe that was a mistake !!
Any good advice gratefuly accpted !
