I couldn't care less about football. Or rugby, or cricket, or tennis.

Don't mind speedskating though, especially the longer distances. The human body at its most beautiful best.

Do most photographers have little interest in football? Thats what becomes apparent on many occasions and is an interesting concept

DD, I only one or two friends who are into photography in any more than a casual way, but of all the people I know only one (1) is interested in football at all. It may be mostly growing up in a rugby playing town and going to schools that didn't play soccer, but I think it's just because football is so crushingly dull.

The only sports I can ever be found watching are rugger, 16 or 18 feet skiff racing (maybe some other sailing), and the IOM TT races.

T'is a funny thing, you never hear many photographers talk about football, except maybe those who photograph it for a living or a hobby.

I was required to follow and support both Football and Speedway teams as I grew up (well they were the only entertainment in Ipswich), but some  point in '82 I finally realised that I didn't really enjoy football, Speedway became much of a much as well with the introduction of 'commercialism'.

As for local friends who are keen photographers - well I can count them on one hand. Well one finger to be precise.

Regarding the 6 week party in Brazil, well I shall not be taking an interest as usual, the same with any sport. For me, football has totally lost its way, as is evident by the current spat over Qatar being awarded the world cup.

But here is my real annoyance with sport - it is supposed to be free of all politics etc, and yet you seem to get more racism, sexism, political protests and most forms of bigotry etc than most other walks of life. It's hypocrasy running amok.
1 body, 1 lens, 1 flash gun, 1 tripod, 1 cable release & 1 filter. Keeping it simple!
(I lied, just got a second lens!)

My late father was a member of the FA, and a football referee for at least 19 years, and after that he went on to observe them while they were training etc. And even though I was brought up around football I can't stand it tbh.

I love motor sport though.   That all said, I will sometimes will watch a big match, England in the world cup etc. Just so I can moan about them. lol..

You need to visit our camera club, where, during the coffee break, photography takes a poor second place to soccer amongst a large group of members. Like most photographic adherents as well, a lot of guff is talked. ::)

The postie...why does he never bring what you're waiting on lol

George Orwell "Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting."

Or H L Mencken "I hate all sports as rabidly as a person who likes sports hates common sense."

And yes Karen, Postie is seriously overdue with a couple of little things coming all the way from China . . some stuff arrives within a week, some never.

According to Karl Marx, religion is the opium of the people.

Had he been alive today, he would have said: Sports is the opium of the people.

Amazing how the outcome of an activity where people kick a ball around grabs the attention of such a mass of the population, to the exclusion of almost everything else.

Me, I'll be hibernating over the next few weeks...and then (groan), it's wimbledon...sigh.

Where I used to work the talk was of nothing but Football, all day bloody long. If their team had played the night before it was all "We played well at the back", "We were the better attacking side.", and other such nonsense.
  What's with the "We"?
I did, and still do, get to see lots of bands, I never went into work and started spouting guff about how "We" played a great improvised drum solo last night!*

* And not only because there's no such thing as "A great improvised drum solo"!

Related to football, this is floating around twitter:

The England team went to a Orphanage in Sao Paulo today. "It was sad to see all the sad faces all with no hope" said Luiz aged 5

I hope this is all done in the lunch break. We are not paying our civil servants to faff about, and discuss football. Whatever next?  ;)

I suppose I may have that in common with a few Canadians.
