a simple example over the benefits of closed source over open source.

As much as i am a fan of open source - Android, like Linux, reminds us why it is so hard to code for all permutations.

It is the one thing I believe has been Microsoft's largest problem - coding for so many variants of Windows PC!

The vileness, stupidity, wilful pig ignorance and misanthropy on the internet is truly staggering.

So how far down the comments was this example of Godwin's Law*?**

*also known as reductio ad hitlerum. One of the internet favourites. Not to be confused with straight forward abuse (ad hominem) or the more typical conflation of ad hominem and straw man - "people like you are . . . (insert mindless insult)"

**just seen it. Wow! First comment. Kudos Carol, most of us usually have at least one reply before this sort of cr*p starts.

I'm afraid that's the internet for you.
However, I wouldn't let it make me adapt the way I go about my business. Can't you just delete the comment or report it as abusive?

Some people seem to find everything racist. You can just block him Carol.

What annoys me very much at the moment, is the fact I was going to have a new washer dryer delivered this morning, and when I rang to make sure it was coming in the morning, as I am away in the afternoons, I was told I was not on the delivery list. I am now awaiting a phone call, but phonecalls sadly won't wash the pile of laundry that has built up.

Should have stuck to John Lewis, but I panicked a bit, and ordered from the official repair people who also sell new goods.

Oh, I too have a Flickr story. I received an email that my account was changed to 'moderate' as I had not properly filtered something.
They had a complaint from someone, but did not say which image had offended him or her.

I have some images of the local 'World Naked Bike Ride' that indeed showed some frontal nudity, so I made all those 'restricted,' and now I am 'safe' again.

I was sure I had 'moderated' them, as I received a complaint at the time, that they were greyed out.

Yes just block him Carol - his problem not yours if he sees such an image in racist terms! Don`t lose any sleep over him - not worth it.

Simple rule of thumb Carol for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr etc - if it's just one or two people having a troll - block them. If it's a large portion of those who've offered a comment - question what they are saying.

Please do not put your pics beyond reach, because they support the invaluable work you do in rescuing these poor unfortunate animals.

Lightroom is driving me nuts. I am trying to import some pictures from an newly installed hard drive. It simply will not let me 'add' them. The 'add' option is greyed out whenever I select a folder to import. All it wants to do is copy the files as well as import. 'Copy' is the only available option. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

When you have selected the folder and/or file to import, I presume you are referring to the heading centre top "Copy as DNG  Copy Move  Add", you can select any of these if you double right click on any of these choices. It will turn white and become the active choice.

Hope this helps!

Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Why must everyone cower in the corner because some prig is offended???? Or some holier than thou moralist, or as in Sarasoke's case
a self appointed photo censor.  >:(

I had a similar issue about a week or so ago, I ended up creating a new catalogue, that allowed me to import the whole hard drive. Give that a go.

Thanks for the suggestions: the problem is that LR is seeing the new drive as a 'device'. This is, I think, because the drive is encrypted and therefore not seen as permanently mounted. So the option to 'add' is not available. On the Adobe forums there is a lot of complaining about not being able to keep images on a removable drive.

Anyway, the workaround requires moving all the images to another drive first, and then copying them on import back to the drive they were on originally. Took ages, but it's done now. Not a happy bunny, it shouldn't be that difficult.
