I went with a friend to our local market today and have a number of people images as well, but not one really leaps out and says 'enter me...'.

Anyone else having rude thoughts?  :)

Oi... keep it nice!
Reinardina, I really like your bus stop, the B&W is great.

Thanks Jen. That was my original entry; the interesting bit of an uninteresting larger image.
I may have chosen the wrong entry shot, I tend to do that on a more or less regular basis!

I decided on this one, seeing I want to work more on  'street photography' and I really like to work in B&W

That's a great candid Jen!

I am seriously considering changing my entry to my original one.
My old French teacher, always used to go on about, how your first impulse always was the right one. Gut instinct I suppose.

The strangers in the bus stop are more defined and all doing their own thing. I'll have a little think. (And probably forget all about it.)

Reinardina, I would say the bus stop one too. It tells a story.

I've had problems in the past, though I cannot remember the exact error message.
On Mick's advice I changed to 'uploading single file' or something similar. A drop down menu somewhere on the right hand side of the screen. That worked.

I am about to upload another shot, as I decided to radically change my entry for the competition. I'm going for glorious colour! If I can upload it, that is.

No problems uploading, thank goodness.

Yesterday afternoon, I saw this lady standing in a shop doorway, making a phone call.
As I am very interested in the modern, very vibrant hair colours you see these days, I hovered till she finished her call and approached her.
I have found that these girls (and women, don't think you can call this lady a girl) are very obliging, when it comes to photographs of their coiffure.
I have photographed quite a few, almost all with permission, and only had one refusal so far.

Any way, I shot her, and decided to use this one for the competition. At least it is different!

You are very brave Reinardina

Brave? People who want to stand out, are usually extrovert (unless they hide their shyness behind extravagant clothing/hair styles), and if you go out of your way to be different, you want people to notice.

I am normally shy, but not when I am behind the camera.

In cases like the 'vibrant hair people', I have simply walked up to them, said I loved their hair or was fascinated by the colour or cut, and asked, could I take their photo. Almost everyone is pleased/flattered/whatever, and says yes.

Just confident is more how i see it.
Having spent a lot of years not having the confidence, now I do, sometimes I ask - other times I just shoot.
But then, I spent a long career driving trains where I wasn't allowed to take pics of people on railway premises or trains - and I think it became ingrained.
Now I don't drive them - I don't have the same employment restrictions...

As I continue my efforts to import and reivew my past mistakes images for review and cull, I've found one of a certain Mr Abers getting one of his pics.

Process seemed simple:

  • Go to Speakers Corner
Select and walk up to Speaker
Place camera in speakers face, allowing enough room for sound to continue leaving mouth
Press shutter button a few times and walk off whilst reviewing image.

Clearly this method works, judging by the number of published images and books he has on offer.
