Just voted for Tom Baker, as I think he represented both wisdom and a youthful appearance. I watched it from the start when the scenery looked very wooden and ready to fall down at the slightest touch.  ;D

Having grown up watching Doctor Who, with only a couple of episodes (if that) of Jon Pertwee 'under my belt', my vote goes to the mad-eyed Tom Baker. :)

Watched it for donkeys years and have a load of stuff on DVD. Plus the grandson has all the toys and other stuff at my expense.
Eccleston gets my vote just ahead of Tom Baker.
IMHO he fitted the brief totally

I'm old enough to have to admit seeing the very first episode - I believe it caused quite a stir for it's originality and quality....we were less critical about TV programmes then ::) I've watched some of the old ones recently and Tom Baker still gets my vote. I think it's hard to compare the old ones with the glossy special effects of today. For the rather less expensive looking old style you need to watch The Sarah Jane Adventures on CBBC where they seem to be confined to one monster per show but you do occasionally get to see K9!

Tom Baker for me too. From what I can make out, he seems nearly as strange off the screen as on. I think both Christopher Ecclestone and David Tennant in recent times have done a pretty good job also.

Before the new series started I would probably have said Jon Pertwee, but now I think he's edged out by David Tennant and Christ Eccleston. Again, before David started, I would have said Chris - but now he is just edged out himself by David.

The new one about to start will be interesting. My initial thoughts are that I dont like him - but I said that about David Tennant too!

Crumbs - this is one of the things I've been missing all these years since I left the UK (36 years ago  :legit:)
I used to watch when it first started, but I haven't the foggiest who all the actors are.

I don't like the look of the new one either - he was in a series just after his being the new Dr. was announced but did'nt seem that charismatic. Can't see them ever going for another old actor like William Hartnell again - I don't think kids today would accept a grandfather figure like we had to ;)

I think William Hartnell was picked because he looked like the mad scientist with his mane of long white hair.  ;D

...and he was always fluffing his lines. Production values were' nt quite as high then either. Same with the very early Avengers [I've got most of them on video - must update to DVD ::)] - there's one episode when Honor Blackman trips as she enters Steed's flat! ooh - that's another question - who was the best female Avengers star? And does anyone remember the name of the very first one...and it was'nt the aforementioned.

Taking the episodes in strictly chronological order you are right, as Cathy Gale did feature in a couple of the first of series two. But for several episodes in the first series after Ian Hendry left, Steed was assisted by a singer called Venus Smith played by Julie Stevens. These are possibly some of the worst episodes of that series. Perhaps that's the reason she has largely been forgotten!

For me it's got to be Chris Eccleston as I never really watched it as a kid - the cyber men used to scare the ........ out of me  :legit:
