Just got back from having the morning look the PR site and noticed on the front page a section entitled Landscapes - Editor's Choice. The choice made comprised five images all of beach scenes. I've got nothing against beach scenes I even try to take them myself when I'm down at the coast, but of all the 250 or so landscape images available the editor decides on five ostensibly all the same. Does he have a blinkered view or just an aversion to a landscape without water in it?

We all have a specialised subject that we enjoy doing, I can't think what mine is ;), however I wouldn't call it an obsession, I try very hard not to be a one trick pony.

Are you obsessed with one particular subject to the exclusion of all others?

I do take the odd dog picture, but then that goes with the job  ;)

However I try my hand at other things too, honest  :D

Well, at present I'm trying to take loads of pictures of insects, but that's because they are mostly around in the summer months. Due to the rubbish weather in July, I've lost five weeks and with the strong winds we've had over the summer it's not been easy.  :(

Deprived childhood maybe! Never had a bucket and spade or donkey ride! Which led to an obsession with the Seaside!

The reason I photograph swans all the time is that, rather like Everest, they're there - several hundred just 5 minutes walk from my house. And they do far more than just bob about if you watch them all year round. I photograph dogs because that's what interests me and for me that's what photography is mainly about - capturing something you're interested in. With bird photography the obssessive need to get a good shot of the subject changes with the seasons.

Well I think I admitted on another site (that faces imminent demise) that I was obsessed with birds. But it's partly because of what Sue said, because they are there. I'm pretty sure I had the feeders long before I started photographing them, but since seeing them there every day summer and winter I've become obsessed with photographing them, seeing what feed attracts what birds, which species visits at a particular time of year etc. :)
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Like most others who have posted so far I will admit to being obsessed with photography, but not with any particular subject.
I will have a go at most things. I shoot more of some subjects, such as indoor flower pictures, firstly because I like flowers but also because they are easy to access - I can buy the flowers from a variety of places and can shoot in any weather and at any time. If I owned a garden I would take more pictures of insects and birds and so forth.
I know a few photographers who have a very narrow range of subject matter. Because this is so foreign to me I have quizzed them a bit and they just tend to say that nothing other than landscapes (for example) interest them. Being very focussed can lead to great skill in their chosen area. I admire this kind of single-mindedness but will never be able to emulate it. I think it comes down to personality mostly.

Must admit, apart form Sheffield Wednesday,Photography is my obsessive passion, the whole thing, editing, getting it to look how i want it to,seeing the scene in the first place, all excites me greatly,,,,,,
Just wish i had more time to work on what i want to work on,rather than other peoples requirements.
Fave thing to photograph,at the moment its wildlife.

obsessed yes, i like to find subjects within subjects by going to a place and exploring it inside out from wide landscape if there is one, right down to macro.
if i go to a zoo i don't just take pictures of the animals but everything i see which sometimes involves a lot shutter clicking.

Definitely obsessed... Not by one particular genre but by all of 'em.

I try very hard not to pigeonhole myself with my images although it's very easy to get wrapped into a 'comfort blanket' and shoot the same sort of image over and over again.

I'm trying to concentrate on my portrait work at the moment (got more weddings to shoot) and I also need to start shooting some macro again... I can get 'em right technically, but I struggle with decent compositions.
