Got my vote and it appears to be a religious carving from UK/Ireland of about 500AD.  :tup:

Thanks for the votes, much appreciated. The carving is from the gate/fence at the local church.
It was quite high, and I'm quite short, so I had to hold my camera above my head at arms length.
