don't you just love wyswyg development software?

One of these days i'll try to get to learn how to use one properly - but i think i'm too stuck in the late 70's through to early 90's to really appreciate them...

Haha yeah, I took Dreamweaver 'beginner' classes sort of thing for extra course we have to do, next year I am going to do intermediate, or was at least, second guessing now lol...

I am going to just restart it tomorrow, build from scratch. Only some pages work. my portfolio page can only be seen from the damn index page and links to it just don't want it to work, so either re link everything or restart. Mite just restart to tidy the codes up!

by and large it seems to work.

The obvious point when looking at failing links is...

"where they are anchored to when posted?"

as opposed to

"where they are anchored to during development?"

It's one of those Homer Simpson things -   when you finally look through the coding and find you hadn't updated them all...
You don't need Dreamweaver to make that mistake!  ::)

Dreamweaver, yes. I did all the courses through a learn at work program years ago. Put together a web page for my office and have promptly forgotten everything. That was probably 7-8 yrs. ago. I think a refresher through community college could be in order! ;D

WAMT? Frightened me and depressed me. Had an incident with a supervisor at my work Friday. This morning, knowing I was headed in for a confrontation checked my blood pressure and found it was through the roof. Went into work and sure enough had the confrontation now I'm back home early and blood pressure is even higher (and I'm already on medication for this  >:( ). Stage 2 hypertension according to the world wide webby thing. At risk for stroke and heart attack. So I emailed another supervisor and work and forewarned him I'm seeking medical attention tomorrow and inquire if I can get this written up as a work related injury.  :(

     Hi Spin'
Sorry your having problems at work. It seems quite a few of us here have had similar issues.
I was the general manager of a medium size company for twenty odd years (30 or so staff, producing 2,500 pairs of specs a week.). It got to the point that I was not getting the suport from my directors that I felt I needed, I no longer enjoyed getting up in the morning and the situation was starting to make me ill.
I offerd my resignation as manager stating that I no longer felt I was the best person for the job. This came as a shock to my MD (which tells you how out of touch with his staff he was.) He reluctantly accepted my decission but asked that I stay on in a non managerial role, this I was happy to accept, it meant a £400.00 a month drop in salery, a sizable chunk let me tell you, but it is without doubt the best £400.00 a month I have ever spent.
The thing is I took control and I made the decission, and that made the world of difference to my self confidence.
I can still be a miserable old sod at work but I no longer take it home with me.
I hope you can find a similar solution, even if it means a slight change of lifestyle. Trust me , it's worth it.
                           All the best.   Graham.  :)

Graham,

Thanks for the encouraging words. Thing is, I work in a gov't office. I can pension out in 9 months and planned too. This guy is new to the office, but came with a reputation (which he's lived up to).
I've gone out of my way not to engage him and that is one of the things he took umbrage with. His immediate supervisor is pensioning out next month and doesn't want any hassle on his way out so he wants to bury this. I'm annoyed by the fact the higher up is well aware of this guy and his reputation and doesn't want to address it. I've sought legal advice and see the worth of it, but it means more confrontation and I don't want that. I wanted to go quietly into my retirement but I no longer see that happening. It doesn't help that I've witnessed two of my long time coworkers driven off the job recently. One went long term sick and then retired and the other was given 2 hrs. to decide if he wanted to retire or be fired. Staying my full term will get me a pension about $400 short a month, where as going now would likely cost me a $700 a month short fall. Me, I don't care about the money and we'd planned to change our lifestyle anyway, but my poor wife is beside herself.
She's terrified I'm going to have a heart attack and die on her. But she's damned if she'll see me retire early and loose that money.

Spin,

i understand how you feel - really i do.
I'd geared myself up to finish driving trains at 55 (8 years time) and re-locate back to Suffolk, where i come, as well as a much cheaper life style.
The thought was i could use my pension and stack shelves a bit to top up - whilst having more time to enjoy my photography, and even try to develop it a bit for a bit of pocket money.

My last 2 years at work have been complete hell and what it has done to my wife, my health, our finances or even the state of our marriage is any bodies guess.
Next week i start back to work after almost 8 months off at a totally new location and all that time taking happy pills. Taking any medication goes against the grain - i really do hate taking medication at any time.
I'm glad to be getting away from the bullying manager, but also bitter because the company knows he's guilty but seem to want to back him all the way resulting in me having to make the move.
I'm looking to see 50 out at work now. Save up to cover relocating, finish purchasing the remainder of the camera kit i'd need to consider developing my hobby into generating some pocket money, replace the car for a new (or almost new) one.
I've absolutely loved driving trains and have so many great memories and experiences of the like that most people could only dream about. I really have lived the dream!
But now - i have no feelings for them at all. They are a means to my pension and the financial base needed to give up the job and move back to Suffolk.

Am i out of the black hole? I don't know - but as Graham says, i've taken charge of my situation and hope to start reaping the benefits from next Monday.
You have to act or their is no hope!

Andy,

I understand you've likely had it way worse than I'm having it. I've been with the gov't for 35 + yrs. now. I've worked under some pretty petty stuck up management types, but I honestly believe that this man needs to see a Dr. The jist of this conflict is him ranting and raving for over 25 mins. in response to a one line email I sent him where he was asking for my take on the moving of desks and cabinets in the office. My one liner? " I prefer the status quo."

Into which he managed to read a lack of respect, a dislike for him and questioning his leadership ability. All of which is true. ;D but none of which was ever said. Anyway, I go to the Doctor tomorrow and will take it from there.

HDV.  It's destroyed most of my day.

We (OK Aidan - the guy who does my video stuff) shot an amazing video of the shoot I did with Irv helping out.  We've had 2 edit sessions and it looks incredible.  Aidan rendered it and we dropped it on my laptop.  That was about 12.  I've been working on it since and it still isn't ready on YouTube.

HDV can't be read by any application except the bloated FCP.  I actually saw one thread that said to view it on your 'puter you need to buy Final Cut Pro!  I have a (legal) version of Final Cut Express but it wasn't clear whether the 2 hour install would help at all.

Smoke comes out of Aidan's iMac every time we try to rerender it and he's rebooted about 15 times (I told him not to run FCP with 1 gig of memory...).  Anyway, FINALLY I managed to convert it with Handbrake and all is well.  Irv's about to make his YouTube debut.  As soon as it finished rendering online....
It's Guest's round

Just home from the Dr. I have a note putting me off work "until further notice". A series of tests lined up to see how or if this has all effected my heart. Dr.'s orders, I'm to enjoy the sun and fresh air, walks in the woods were prescribed. Not happy, but I am relieved there's no more confrontations in my immediate future.  :(

Am a member of an 'association' which is a collective bargaining unit much like a union but without the right to strike. I have been in touch with them and they have agreed to file grievance papers on my behalf. My only issue with that is, they seem to want to go after the upper management and my issue is with middle management. Although, I guess a lot of the problem is with upper management blindly supporting middle management to the detriment of all else. For what it's worth I have friends who are related to some of the upper management and my story may make its way through the back door. Time will tell.

Oh and as for the whisper? I truly believe this guy has one or more screws loose and I don't think anything would get through to him.

Seems your taking control of the situation Spin.
Sure, your not happy about it, it's not a happy time for you, that bit comes a little later.
Yes, the guy needs a poke in the eye with a sharpe stick, that's for some one else to worry about. His behaviour is down to him, how you react to it is up to you.
Take your doctors orders and follow them, devote the time to yourself and your family and let the work situation drift away.
                            All the best.  Graham.  ;)

Very sorry to hear about your work situation Spin. Graham's advice is very sensible. Enjoy your time in the sun (and the woods) and take care of yourself. I find that getting absorbed in something completely unconnected to my stressor (like photography) is often the best way to wind down when things are bad. Once I'm really engaged doing something else, work or other issues become less important. So maybe take your camera on those walks?

I hope that things improve for you Andrew once you're back at work in your new place, and that you can start to enjoy your job again.
