Same here Chris, I've never managed to get a decent lightning shot.

Will keep trying though....

That is an incredible shot. All we seem to get here regularly is sheet lightning, and that just doesn't make a good picture. I, also, have never managed to get even a half decent lightning shot.

In fairness there are lots of things I've never managed to get a decent shot of, lightning is just one of them!

Like you say, we keep trying...  now where did I leave those memory cards...

Cracking shot and those clouds blow me away!  ::)
Looks like a long exposure, via car trails, but over here, lighting strikes all over the place, which makes it difficult to focus on one area. The other week, I stood on a bridge at Sandwell Valley trying to predict where the next flash would come from and missed a big bolt, which it turned out was the one that killed one chap in Small Heath.  :(

took quite a few attempts to get this one, but I am lucky that outside my back bedroom is a valley that leads to the sea, so i get lots fo heavy storms clouds and lightning storms are quite common over the valley, best bit is I dont even have to leave home :)

Absolutely stunning thread shot - all hail to the tog.
Orgies shot deserves much praise also as does any one able to catch a half decent shot.

Stunning stuff.

Err, everybody knows you can hack Canon compacts to shoot lightning automatically, right?  I'm not saying anyone did - I'm saying it's easier and safer if you do....

Like this.

I've hacked my G9 with CHDK and had a play with a couple of things like timelapse and HDR.  I tried motion detect and it works fine but never tried it with lightening.  Should work like they say though.

Very cool, especially the raw option for those cameras that dont have it :)
