When best laid plans go wrong
« on: February 25, 2018, 07:28:09 PM »
Last few months I`ve been persuading my daughter that what she needed was a Cake Smash shoot for our granddaughters first birthday. I shot the naming ceremony but this was what I really wanted to do. I had a backdrop i`d barely used and was itching to get my old d700 out , maybe with some lights. Of course on the day too many people and I was told I could only do it in the hallway at my daughter`s house. Although I`d virtually cut my massive  backdrop in to virtual quarters it still wouldn`t fit with stands in my allotted space. Begrudging I accepted the refusal to let us go in the lounge even though the vinyl backdrop would protect the floor and I conceded I`d have to photoshop afterwards. Lesson learned again - get it right in camera and never expect to neaten things up in photoshop. I`ve been on all day because she only rejected 10% of the shots instead of the 75-80 % I`d hoped for. I`ve had to get folds out of floor vinyl, stairs jutting into the sides and background light shining through the front door behind the vinyl wall even though I`d covered it. Nightmare. I`ve plucked 3 shots out at random to show what happens when a one year old who has been barred from havign sugar, salt and many other things for a whole year is let loose on a whole cake. She thought all her birthdays had come at once!  :).

It's always the same. At least you have ended up some cracking shots.

As the saying goes, never work with children, animals or cake.
May the Force be with you.
