I'm only vaguely familiar with the different formats, but it sure is amusing, and in such beautiful monochrome!

I've used most of the formats there, except 10x8 and 6x4.5. My formats of choice are 5x4 and 6x7 if I want a smaller camera.

The real point about negligible differences is that if you take enough of them, they do have an unfortunate tendency to mount up. For my eyes, the full frame 36 megapixel Sony a7r can't hold up against my scanned 5x4 negatives - and scanned using a flatbed rather than drum scanner. That's because of my print sizes. I have a box camera that produces perfect prints - all the resolution, tones, etc. you could ask for. A perfect print. BUT - enlarge it to 10x8 (or even smaller than that) and it's hideous. The same applies across the board - every format has a limit beyond which it can't go. And unless you have a better print (from a larger sensor/film size) to compare with, you can easily fail to spot the drop.

That depends on the distance between you and the print. I seen a large print up close and it's hideous as you say but, stand at the correct distance and it's perfect.

I think it's very flawed psychology to expect people to view a print from the "correct" distance; and "correct"  has more than one meaning anyway. For perspective, it's the lens focal length multiplied by the degree of enlargement, for ease of viewing the whole print it depends on the physical size of the print. But in practice, present people with a detailed print and they'll want to examine the detail. It was so at the birth of photography (microscopes on Daguerrotypes) and people haven't changed. But this is way, way off topic.
