Update help
« on: November 25, 2014, 08:51:13 AM »
OK after my problems with an update a while back I held off using automatic updates until I got my weddings out of the way. A friend ( not very knowledgeable) always says if it ain`t broke... and ignore updates but I find it hard. I currently have this stack of advised important updates awaiting installation

I`ve googles recent problems with searches and cannot find any presenting problems but still scared. Experience with the latest Google Nexus 7 system update which I allowed with no way back  without being a tech geek has seriously undermined the performance of my nexus - luckily mainly only on facebook app and using yahoo videos but it worried me even more.

I think I`ve just created a restore point at this mornings level of operating fine. What should I do? Install all the updates and trust it or do I even need those updates and continue to ignore them? Any advice welcomed. I just don`t want to end up crashing my machine.

Interesting....  My Nexus 7 upgraded itself from Kitkat to Lollipop (Android 5) a few days back and I'm very suspicious that it's a lot slower at everything than it was. But most reviews say the new system is faster. However, some of tha Apps didn't upgrade till yesterday, and perhaps that was the cause. I need to wait and see if it's any better now.

But re Windows PC updates - I've always accepted them as soon as they're offered. Only once, ages ago, I had to roll back to a restore point when something screwed up, and next time updates arrived I accepted them and had no further problems. But then, I don't have many "extras" on my PC, so possibly your experience would differ....

Cheers Simon. It`s the 2012 Nexus 7 (mine) that is having most reported issues. I`m getting random crashes on facebook / slower chrome google searches / google play store  crashes  but not noticed anything else. seems to affect google products worse than others - facebook aside. Getting a bit annoyed with google. Their video player update has now lost the option of playing personal videos i.e. my wedding slideshows for client views. Before this update I had been able to remove recent updates and get them back but now there is no such button to hit. I`ve managed to find /install a couple of other video players that work OK but not as good as the google vid player was  :uglystupid2:

Any other views on the windows update. I expect doing these all at once will take forever?

You are an IE user are you not? In that case I would definitely install the updates - there was a major patch Tuesday a few weeks ago fixing a big hole in IE.

My tablet is a Samsung G3 - running 4.4.2 - I don't think that it is actually capable of running version 5, so can't help you with that one. Although you might find something on www.afterdawn.com or www.howtogeek.com.

Right better get the poll up.

I've haven't had any problems with major updates on Windows either. As to third party updates like Goggle that's a different problem. Before doing the windows updates check your restore points and see if you have one going back before you had the problem with Goggle. If unsure when that was, choose a date when you created your last video that worked without problems. If you haven't got restore points that go back that far try uninstalling the Goggle Application using Windows via Control Panel, Programs and Features. Scroll down the list till you find the application, select it and choose Uninstall/Change. Follow the instructions that appear and when finished reinstall the application after rebooting the PC. Sometimes this cures the problem.

The Windows updates you listed will take between one to two hours and may require a few reboots., as some updates can only install after Windows has closed. This only happens when you restart the PC and before Windows starts running. Good luck.

Cheers all. The google issues are with the Nexus system update not the PC Oldboy. Different matter I muddied the waters with. I`ll do the PC updates when I get back from town if I`ll need a few reboots. Thanks.

All done without problems - it would appear. Thanks. I`ll not let them mount up next time. The Google nexus  system update is another matter  :uglystupid2:
