QOTD 31st October - Halloween
« on: October 31, 2013, 07:32:21 AM »
Are you out taking pictures of Halloween today/ tonight? Or are you just a bit over the commercialism?

I spent Halloween in the US in 2011 at a 'pumpkin chucking fair', it was hilarious fun as they had pumpkins on catapults, pumpkin pie and everyone was dressed up.
This is my favourite pic....

Our local PYO farm cultivates about 2 acres of pumpkins for Halloween so there is certainly a commercial aspect that has grown over the years, and provides seasonal photographic opportunities, the next being Bonfire Night.

Does anyone ever see 'Penny for the Guy' anymore. That was always a great way of raising funds to buy fireworks. Make a good Guy Fawkes, get an old box on wheels and the local prime spot, usually by the bus station in town, and you'd could go home with a large pocketful of change.

Mind you, looking at the price of fireworks today it would have to be ' a £5 for the Guy please'.  :o

I have just finished carving a pumpkin for my children.
Personally I don't like halloween. To me its become too comercialised and a pain in the @$&*.
I resent poeople coming to my door asking for sweets and I feel obliged to do so to save eggs being thorwn at my home or my car.
I know that this is an extreme occurance, but its wrong in my eyes.
And I'm not a miserable old git most of the time. Just today!! :( :-[

A rather apt shot Jen

Makes me feel sick that children are encouraged into having a blackmail mentality, which is a far cry from the original lamping, thought and care aspect in the origins of remembrance.

I too hate Halloween now. The endless ringing of the bell and finding the cheapest , nastiest sweets I can to give out . Only had my car egged once - and I`ve never even turned anyone away empty handed - but the risk is always there. If it was kids in the street I knew that`s one thing but randoms are something else. Like the pumpkin pic spikeyjen - nice idea and apt as Andy says  :)

We sound like a load of old miserable buggers - don`t even get me started on fireworks and my poor terrified cat. We have not had the alarm set at night for a week as he hinds behind the sofas every night and is impossible to draw out.

Christmas I love  ;)

I carved 6 pumpkins last night.  We had all our other stuff up on the weekend.  I still have to get the smoke machine out for tonight.  It is raining here so it may not be too busy.

I am at work wearing a hockey goalie mask (no, we Canadians do not just do that daily ;) ).  I have a misting skull on my desk.  I have a scarecrow costume for tonight.

The girls wore costumes to school and are having a party.  My wife wore one to work.  I think it is just an excuse to wear a pointy black hat for her :)

When our daughter was younger we used to have little dressing up parties, but now we just chill.

Living in the country at the end of a dirt track does tend to discourage the instances of trick or treaters :)

I've just noticed my wife has donned her horror mask... Oh, hang on...no, she hasn't!  :legit:

I joke about my wife the witch :)  However one day her mom gave her a bunch of items she had in storage.  One of them was a home made witch costume from when she was a little girl.  I think it is a comfort thing.  I can see it already in my daughters.  One of them always wants a "traditional" triangle eye jack-o-lantern on at least one pumpkin.  It was was I carved on the first pumpkin she remembers that I made for her.
