Do you switch off your camera, when changing lenses?

Thank you both. It is what I was advised, but a friend never does (or did).

That sounds like a very good reason to switch off.

I bought my first DSLR (Canon D30) Autumn 2000 and I must admit to rarely powering down when changing lenses, due mainly to forgetting to switch off.
Never ever had a problem.

Always try to - occasionally fail but don`t get Spinner`s tingle  ;)

I usually turn it off but it doesn't make any difference!

I was told it is to prevent dust on the sensor. Is it possible, this became more of a problem with DSLR?

My friend has his photographic roots, firmly in the film era, and switches lenses regularly (and fast), without ever having had any problems.

To be honest, most dust in a camera is produced inside rather than coming from outside. Think of all the moving parts inside the camera producing dust as they rub against each other. Having said that I wouldn't suggest changing lenses during a dust storm.  :uglystupid2:

I think I need to clarify, the sensation I was trying to describe was PANIC.  :-[ Even though I've never had issue with my cameras, I've shorted other sensitive things. Like just last week I shorted a 1 TB Drive.  :'(

The drive should be OK but the board is fried. Just replace the board.
