Concept Photography - Images via the camera, film or digital photograph; Where anything goes in regards to processing and editing, the only limit being your creative imagination.

While not a requirement, if you would like to share how your image was achieved please feel free to do so.

Hi Alan,
I had posted a couple of shots months ago, and as they had no real pigeon hole in the listed categories; I thought a new one may also attract the more abstract images like Reinardina's "I Love Fruit" and your inspiring "Try out" editions etc..

The category title can be changed if folk wish - But as the images are not created from scratch as in Digital Art painting, "Concept"seemed to fit the topic aspect; Where photograph editing pushes the boundaries of General Photography into the realms of , composites, surrealism, graphics, and digital art forms etc..

And I guess looking at all of Tony Rabina's posts (following a most recent post)  I'm almost :-[ to say that I see his work  "Beachy Head" in a fresh light.  ;)

Some of you will know, that I regularly get carried away and create images that have nothing in common with the original shot. My (photographer) friend always sighs deeply, when I have been 'creative.' It doesn't rock his boat at all. I wonder what you (all of you) think of it.
For me it is just 'playing about,' and I don't really see it as art in whatever form, but is it? Or could it be?
I'll dig out a picture to illustrate this, and add it a bit later.

From this: Rose.

I ended up with this: Rose Moth.

In my opinion Photography is an Art.

Like all the Arts, it demands certain disciplines and exercise, especially if you want to make a career out of it.

I rather like your "Rose Moth" Reinardina - It catches the eye and I can imagine it as a Greeting card. Looking forward to seeing more of your 'playing about'.

What I should have said: Is it still photography?
It moved on to digital design, based on photography.
Does it have a place on a photography site?
Am I simply making life too difficult by nitpicking, and taking things too litteral?

There are those that would say YES to each question and those that would say NO, it's all in the interpretation. If the possibilities are there to end up with an image that you like, go for it. In the days of the darkroom such possibilities existed to a lesser extent and very few howls of disapproval were heard, and then they were usually from those that couldn't execute such manipulation, so what's new?

More power to your elbow I say!

Just an afterthought, does a photographic image made other than with the use of a camera bar it from any photographic environment?  :-\

P.S. Your Rose Moth is great. I would bet you didn't set out to 'make a moth from a rose' but who cares?

Well an image created by Sonar is recording density of returning sound waves and not light to create the image, however a camera photograph of the scanner screen would be photographic. What sort of "photographic image" are you thinking upon Alan, beyond perhaps a digital scanner (that utilises a built in light and sensor)?

Perhaps asking; Where do you draw the line on the 'development of photographs' answers those questions.

With the speed of technology still increasing in the digital realm, it is already possible to take a still from a video and produce a beautiful print. Is that photography, or the end of it?
Let's face it, we used to have the arguments of, digital vs film, clean shot vs Photoshop and everybody has moved on,  and producing Visual Art has never been more popular. Perhaps we
should forget about using old terms like photography, photograph etc. and call what people produce as a visual stimulant something else? Before long it will be hard to distinguish on the PC at least, between, pictures taken with Mobiles, videos, DSLR's, scanners and little video camera's that can be mounted on bikes, cars etc. And all of these will be manipulated either in camera or or on a pc. I remember how difficult it was to make panorama's and blend images seamlessly in Photoshop. I just seen a Fuji bridge camera that does the whole thing for you, even deciding when to make the next shots. No computer needed. It just raises the bar higher and we as "photographers" should be challenged by it. Use any editing program to its maximum I say, just to be different and stand out from the masses. The end result is what counts and what is talked about, the way to get there is "hopefully" your enjoyment of the hobby.

The word 'Image' would cover everything, I suppose.

Glad you appreciate my 'Rose Moth' Alan, and no, I did not set out to create an insect from a rose!

I tend to 'play around' when I do not have a lot of recent photos to edit, and don't feel like going back to all those, that I took some time ago and are still waiting to be properly looked at.
I also use it for competitions where pp is allowed, if I cannot think of, or take, a picture I am truly happy with. The 'I love Fruit' image was born out of a regular, and not particularly interesting, shot of bananas, apples and oranges.

I never have a set idea of what I want to try either. I just 'do.' Try all sorts of filters (distortion a favourite!) and see if I get something I like. Usually I end up with several that are similar, and often I like more than one version.
I've got the moth in different colours for instance, but decided to 'publish' just the one in the most natural (rose) colour.

Anyway, I'm glad this sort of image making, is not frowend upon on CC!

Thanks H.
I'm more or less on the same level, as far as art is concerned.
