CS5 Bridge/iPad2/Mac Experts?
« on: November 26, 2012, 03:54:58 PM »
Can anyone tell me, why, when I plug my iPad2 into my Mac, Bridge downloader starts automatically. Yet even though it sees the iPad it won't see any photos? And I have opened up iPhoto with the same results, sees the ipad, doesn't see the files.  >:(

Oh, yes, I have googled for an answer and all the hits I got were Windows and PC specific.

A nieghbour recently came to me with an iPad - the first I'd seen - asking for help. She knew there were lots of photos on it but couldn't find them. I fiddled for quite a while (I'm not used to smartphones etc either) and suddenly the photos appeared. I believe that somehow the folder they were in had not initially been visible. Could it be that your MAC is looking at the wrong folder?

Oh I know exactly where the photos are to be found on the iPad, sadly, the Mac itself does not see the iPad as an attached device. You can't, for instance go to Finder (mac equivalent to explorer) and navigate the ipad as if it's an external drive. Only iTunes will see it and open it, problem there is, far as I can determine, it only allows a one way transfer, that being, from the Mac to the iPad, and not the otherway around.

Now, I've found an app called "ipad to mac transfer" that will let you move photos and other files in 100 file batches and used it. But, why when I have native iPhoto, iTunes and Image Capture, plus Adobe Bridge Downloader am I forced to install a 5th program to do this? While I really like the iPad for it's compact size and versitility, it seems as if Apple has deliberately crippled it or their engineers are horribly short sighted.

Don, unless you know something I don't, what I've found is the syncing only goes one way. You can send files from the Mac to the iPad but not the otherway around. The fact that someone went and wrote a program to do just that makes me think the issue is not me, it's Apple.

I do not have an ipad, but according to Apple, it works:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

Ah, it's the fine print that's the issue. If you read the article, it says iTunes will import photos TAKEN BY THE IPAD, not photos you imported to the iPad to store or work on. In other words in confirms my complaint. All the photos I took on holiday, using my camera that I then imported to the iPad to process, are stuck on the iPad unless you use 3rd party software like the App I downloaded. A serious software flaw IMHO. I wouldn't have bothered to even take the iPad had I known, I thought I was being super efficient, instead I was creating a headache for myself and further confirming the "it just works" affirmation is just bogus.

It says "Camera Roll or Saved Photos" and then says only taken with the iPad.   That sucks.  I can import photos saved to my Camera Roll on my iPhone into Lightroom.
