High Speed Trigger
« on: September 21, 2012, 11:40:28 PM »
I havent looked in much lately ive spent several weeks of my spare time building a trigger using plans put up by Micheal Ross http://mrossphoto.com/wordpress32/phspt/
In theory i can now control camera, 4 flash guns, 4 solenoid valves down to tens of milliseconds and trigger them by sound, light and infrared. Only tested the waterdrop part so far and pretty impressed although the I.R. wouldnt pick up the drops.
I have no electronics knowledge or C programming so its a good job i had plans but i have learned to solder and picked up a bit along the way as well as making myself jump by blowing a capacitor i put in the wrong way round.
Still a few glitches to sort but i am sure i will soon be boring you with lots of water drop shots & bursting ballons and maybe even exploding fruit if i can borrow a gun!

First efforts tonight

I did warn you!

Got the sound trigger working, just need a storm now to try the lightning detector.

Cool shots, I wouldn't have the first idea about creating one of these. I bought a StopShot from America which does all the above, however I guess you made yours for a lot less than I imported mine.

Thanks Cathus, I had no idea how to make one  but after looking at time machine and stop shot I realised it was beyond my "hobby" budget then I found some very detailed instructions online, cost less than £150 and now I potentially have another hobby!
You got me thinking so I looked at stop shot site and I quite like the look of their ir range detector http://www.cognisys-inc.com/products/rangeir.php?osCsid=468e5de7c0ec0c81dbd4c7c805148ce4 , next project? Will look into it.

i have to say, i'm impressed with people who can do things like this.
Sadly, i'm of the 'have to buy it' variety - just because i don't get some of the things being discussed etc.

But some lovely shots all the same.
1 body, 1 lens, 1 flash gun, 1 tripod, 1 cable release & 1 filter. Keeping it simple!
(I lied, just got a second lens!)

Finally used the lightning detector, only got one half decent shot due to me playing with the trigger and not the camera settings.

Cracking series of shots. Fascinating to see them.
I have watched of few videos on YouTube from The Slowmo Guys. These photos remind me of the Slowmo stuff they do.
Good work.
May the Force be with you.
