VHS to DVD
« on: April 21, 2012, 08:06:37 PM »
Anyone here done their own conversions??
If so with what piece of kit and software ?
Got around 60 VHS tapes I would like to back up onto DVD. Don't want to go down DVD recorder/player option
Will be using a vista 64 machine and an old Panasonic VCR.

TIA
Alf

I used one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/dazzle-video-creator-platinum-96887  although it's a different make (AverMedia) and was about £40 a few years ago.  It worked as treat.   Apart from the bloomin video recorder chewing a couple of tapes in the process.  :knuppel2:

Plugs into USB port, then plug your video recorder into the adaptor.

There's some more adaptors here, http://www.maplin.co.uk/computing/video-editing/video-editing  ;)

I used a thing called a Video Grabber which I still have somewhere. Worked OK from what I can remember. I will have a look and check it out and get back to you.

Just had an update flyer from ebuyer.
Is this the type of thing your referring to ?

I'm guessing it's a similar thng to what Dave was talking about  Same as in link I also posted above.  ;)

The one you just posted though Alf, read the two last reviews, and see if it's going to cause problems on your PC.   Before buying, I quite often check out the support site's for said item, and make sure they keep up with driver updates etc.  Maybe even read there forums for issues if they have a forum.

Found the same one on http://www.play.com  for £7.99 with free delivery.    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/3273/2540/-/21859230/EasyCAP-USB-2-0-Video-And-Audio-Capture-Card/Product.html    Very cheap, but I guess not much good if it won't work.

Alf, I don't think there's many other options available to be honest, unless you pay someone to transfer them for you, or you have one of those combined video tape / DVD recorders.

You'll need some way of importing the video to your PC, and then burn it to DVD, and those adaptors we mentioned above are a way to do this.

Aye your right, but its peoples opinions of the kits they have used to do this that I was mainly interested in

I had a Grabee and it was rubbish - none of the available drivers worked.

I have a TV tuner/video capture PCI card in my daughter's PC that I use to grab VHS video when required, although they don't make that particular one any more. Similar to THIS

Look at the Magix thing here - I'm told it's very good though I've not tried it (yet, but am considering it):

Or the Pinnacle, which is more expensive (and I've had bother in the past with Pinnacle software).
