I think I've cracked it with OH's HS10 (OK, with wildlife, anyway!) - I just love to keep hammering away with any bit of kit until I have something vaguely resembling an understanding!  ;)
And the quality's great, even at ISO400 (Blue Tit and Hen Pheasant are ISO100). OK, DOF's a little more than desired (all taken with lens as wide as it'll go) but given an OK BG, it's not really a problem

#1 Chaffinch

#2 Squizzer - we seem to have a couple who've taken up residence in the garden

#3 Blue Tit

#4 Squizzer

#5 Hen Pheasant - one of the 2 wives for Mr Pheasant who are all living in the garden

Birds are at max zoom and Squizzer's at midpoint zoom
Whatever and ever. Amen
