Nope.

It's just mostly untrue.  There is a very significant difference between a virus and a trojan.  This is a trojan.  Viruses are still to all intents and purposes unknown on OS X.

The main difference is that viruses spread "all by themselves" but Trojans require user action.  There's no realistic way for OS X to stop users installing malware on their computers.  Though they try hard enough on iOS.

Except the this 'trojan' didn't require any user interaction - so I'll call it a virus, if that's OK with you. Like most Windows viruses it was not an attack on the OS itself, but rather on Java. On a vulnerability that M$ patched 6 weeks earlier, according to this report.

"The Flashback malware was capable of installing itself on unprotected Mac machines without user interaction, a factor that goes a long way in explaining the success of its spread. Users become infected simply by visiting a site loaded with exploit code, in drive-by-download-style attacks."

The simple fact is that no OS will be virus proof and Macs have now reached a percentage of the market that makes them attractive to criminals. Linux next . . maybe. Makes you wonder what site they were all visiting though, doesn't it?

On a serious note, if you fear you may be infected, read this article, it includes 3 simple command line queries in Terminal to determine if you are infected.

The amazing thing is on that link you can also ask a database if your machine is infected.  It knows....
