VAT on fuel for Air Ambulance.
« on: February 19, 2012, 12:42:37 PM »
I know this is total unrelated to anything photographic; I came across this on another forum, and thought it worth supporting. We  see the helicopter quite often in real life and on the local news.

I think the e-petition web site is quite self explanatory. I gather that the Lifeboat Service does not pay VAT but the Air Ambulance does.

I have signed up myself.

Air ambulance doesn't get help with the running costs either, run by donations etc.  I wonder if the police helicopter would get in the air if was run like this.  ::)

This is ours, taken on it's maiden flight a couple of years ago when they opened the new hopital.

Yeah, no wonder they're expensive to operate if that is coming all the way from the Hospital to treat Grahams finger a zoom lens away  :2funny: :legit:

Apparently:

The EU VAT Directive does make an exemption for lifeboats. There's no equivalent provision for supplies used by other charities and we're not able to change that

So I guess we should be grateful that the RNLI get exemption! But I still signed - especially as I think the public outrage on radio licensing got the RNLI a reduced rate with OFCOM a few years ago

It's OK, you'll be lucky to see a police helicopter after the government cuts loads of them and turn the show into a national police air unit which will 'provide a better service to the public' which is government speak for 'will save a shed load of cash and provide a service that can't possibly be better'.
