Just noticed that we've released a new version of Pixlr Express - no need to download and install any software, it runs directly through your browser:

http://pixlr.com/express/

There's also a more comprehensive version which has a lot of the photo editing tools that Photoshop has but again it runs directly inside your browser window and is free to use:

Do you think web based tools like this will become the norm for photo editors over time or do you think people will still stick with PC\Mac installed software? There's lots of talk and development of cloud based apps in our industry but have to say that photo editing seems to be having a march on most other things.

Cloud computer sounds wonderful until the servers blow up and you lose all your stuff.  :o

Depends what you're using cloud computing for OB, if you're using it to store data then there is that possibility, although there are plenty of fail safes should a server go pop.

Cloud computing can also be used for processor power, you can still store all of your data in the location of your choice but the cloud is doing all of the processing for you.

Home PC processing power - 2 processors vs Cloud processing power - 100's if not 1000's of processors.

We've already started developing cloud based apps that does this kind of thing (specifically for high end simulation & analysis) and what would normally take an engineer hours or days to do, they are now doing in minutes. All of their data is still secure in the location of their choice.

Have a look at 123D catch, it takes multiple 2D photographs and turns them into a usable 3D model in minutes using the processing power of the cloud.

Or   SOPA gets enacted and the U.S. gov't seizes them on unproven allegations.

As a Canadian friend of mine once said, probably quoting someone else 'if you think the Americans are bad from your side of the pond, you ought to try living next door to the b*st*rds'

The only special thing about Britain's relationship with the US is that we roll over really easily.
