They were talking about it on the radio yesterday, I think it's a great idea.....and in all seriousness why not use bodies for fuel as well??
Controversial I know but I read a Sci-Fi story many many years ago where the "spacecraft" was powered by amongst other things the bodies of the dead so nothing was wasted. It seems logical to me...and I know others will strongly disagree this is just my opinion nothing more

We spend a lifetime taking out so why shouldn't we give something back when it no longer matters to us.

Put me down as a for but please dont chop me up and put me in the wood burner.

All of the heat will pretty much come from the gas used to run the crematorium furnace. The human body is ~75% water, so most of this heat goes to drying the body out before it'll burn.

I don't see any problems with this. The waste heat from the furnace can still be put to good use.

The bather's might object if a floating funeral pyre was constructed in the pool, though.

As for the Sci-Fi activity, it'd be much more efficient to re-use the body's materials, mulch them down and return them to the food cycle as fertilizer or Soylent Green.

I think it's pretty crazy there's any discussion about this.

Council building produces excess heat.  Another council building next door needs heat.  It would be pretty easy to write an article on the scandalous waste that they are not doing this.

And what does this have to do with "religious groups".  I honestly can't think of a religion that has a deity so weak and ineffectual that they would worry over this.
