Nikon plasticky lenses

What do on board Nikonians think of Nikon's plastic feeling lenses? In General. I've been visiting my local Camera Outlet store where they're selling bins and bins of used kit. Tons of Minolta and Pentax. Nikon's hit and miss, so far though I've picked up a couple of old AF lens that I bought for less than £25 each. They're clean, scratch free and fully functional. Just well, plasticky.

Sounds a bit like the old "E" series lenses. A budget range which Nikon quickly dropped. Presumably because they didn't realy fit in with the Nikon way of doing things, (reputation to uphold and all that.).

It depends on the type of plastic used!  :o

Mind you at £25 each, if they work well who cares.

So far, can't find any draw backs. But yeah it struck me as odd, given Nikon's rep. But so far as anyone knows there's no major issues with them?
I'm thinking they're perfect for taking on a vacation, if they're damaged or lost no big deal. Flying's so precarious these days.
