Printer colour/brightness problem

I have an Epson printer USB connected to an XP desktop with Paint Shop Pro and Epson Photo Print which is connected to a wireless router. I've bought a new Laptop with Elements 8 specifically for photo work which uses the same printer via the wireless.

A photo which looks fine on the laptop screen prints (using Elements) considerably lighter than it should, whether by wireless or using a direct USB cable connection to the printer. Yet the same file transferred to the desktop prints FAR darker than it should, to the extent of looking very murky, using either the Epson software or Paint Shop Pro.

Any ideas?
