A good opportunity this coming Friday evening, to shoot the Moon and Mars close together. Weather permitting. See more here:-

sadly i'll be in a comedy club so not a hope of catching it. (not much chance of seeing down Sussex at the mo as the skies are soooo grey and depositing sooo much rain!  :-[)

But good luck to the rest of you

I'm trying to recall the last time we had clear skies here when any astronomical event was worthy of photographing  :-\

Well I can actually see it now here in Leeds. Just a reddish light to the left of the moon on a really clear night. Was hoping to get a nice photo but you do have to be at 1bout 100mm to get both in  and it is a clenched fist away at arms length exactly as they said

It's been snowing here non-stop all day.
It's finally stopped now, but the sky is still overcast. Strangely the sky has a strange red glow, but no moon or stars are to be seen.

My fingers are frozen, so's the camera. The sky was clear with some thin cloud, and occasional thicker stuff, all blowing along very quickly. but sooo cold - minus 4 or so but strong bitterly cold wind. Think I got some good shots of the moon, but the camera's screen doesn't show the tiny red dot I could clearly see in the viewfinder. When I thaw out I'll maybe look at them on the PC.

I wouldn't call that poor Dave. I can now say NONE of my shots worked. I've got some nicely exposed shots of the moon, and lots more at various under and over exposures, but not one of them shows any glimmer of Mars at all - even though it was very clear in my viewfinder.

It's still there in the sky, bright as day - I'm going out for another go.

I too didn't get any decent shots of Mars.

These are both a paste up of the Moon and Mars - Heavily cropped and taken with a 400mm lens.

The second one, Mars was actually OOF, but shows up a bit better and full size is a bit orange!

When I went out around midnight for the dogs' last chance to do their bit before the night, the sky was clear and I could see both moon and Mars clearly.
However it was too cold and too late for me to be getting out the tripod etc.
I guess I'll never be a serious photographer  :legit:

It's interesting to see what shots you guys got tho.
