If you get out and about then you may be interested in tough hard drives.  Lacie Rugged is the industry standard.  But they are pricey.

But there are alternatives.

Maplins are distributors for those I believe.  A fair bit more expensive though by the looks of it.

Actually Maplin may be cheaper if you have one local and so don't have to pay carriage.  There are Maplin discount vouchers everywhere.
