Let's not let Canon steal all the limelight!

A200 launch wasn't exactly earth-shattering, though Sony's marketing seems to be to pick up the p&s and entry market from CES.

Sony site briefly listed downloads for A300/A350 - at least one of these will have liveview, with (come on canikon - keep up!) a tilting, articulated lcd screen!

PMA should be interesting!

I'm not sure about live view.

I have it on my MkIII - and whilst it is ok when using a tripod and static subjects, its no good for anything else.

I know newer models can now auto focus, but is the feature really needed - I much prefer to use the view finder - and I don't want an EVF either - or at least not until they are as fast as a proper one.

Don't confuse everyone else's live view with the Sony system - the latter is vastly superior to the systems offered by Canon, Nikon and Pentax.

I don't doubt the Sony system is better - but regardless of how good it is - I prefer the have the viewfinder to my eye!

IMHO having the camera at arms length so you can see the screen just makes for an unstable platform and can result in camera shake. I regularly hand hold my 5D at 1/6" with my 17-40mm and get acceptably sharp images.

Yes Liveview has its uses when you want to shoot with the camera high in the air - but I've had to do that about twice!

But its good to have the choice! I'm in no way suggesting that it shouldn't be an option - but not one that I would change cameras for, let alone systems!

Have to agree with you on Mark on having the viewfinder to my eye.

I really don't like looking at a screen to compose a shot.

Yep, me too. Hardly ever use the live view.

I really only find it handy when the tripod is a bit too low for comfort or if I have the camera actuallly on the ground.

Still, the Sony system is more like a bridge camera's and so much better than the current crop of offerings from the other manufacturers. Not having seen the new Nikon, that is.

I wouldn't use it (probably)

Then again it might be useful if shooting tethered to the PC, I assume you can do this using live view?  Set up on a tripod next to bird table etc.  8)

anglefire

I believe so - cause the way to go is to get the wireless transmitter and have them whizzed back to the PC over the ether!
