We are seeing this last couple of years as the gap years we never had and enjoying every minute of it. we`ve lost / nearly lost some good friends and stupid ages  these last 2 years or so and feel we need to get that travelling done whilst we are fit enough for the long hauls.

Yes, it's best to do this whilst you are both fairly fit and healthy. After a long and hard life it's great to have some 'me' time and be able to spend it together is a bonus to be enjoyed.

Couldn't agree more. I too have lost people very close to me, in the last eighteen months. My 'coping therapy' was a total overhaul of my apartment, but once that is finished, I may look into a bit of travelling.
