So tell all - what did you buy at the camera shop and never (or hardly ever) end up using? It looked so essential, but when you got home, there was absolutely no need for it.....

I bought one of those whirling brushes that generate static to remove dust from the sensor. When I got my first DSLR (Nikon D50), I was paranoid about dust, and would never even change a lens outside.

In 3 and a half years, I've never noticed any dust whatsoever on any photos (probably due to the shots I take - If I was a landscape photographer dust would likely show up more on clear blue skies). I change lenses outdoors all the time. Took my D60 on the beach in Australia.

Never had a singl;e dust problem.

OK, over to you. What did you buy and never use?

Mine is a set of close up filters which I used once on a 17-55 kit lens.
Stuck in a drawer now and I bought a little nikon micro lens from a member not so far away from this post to replace them which introduced macro photography to me -lol

My second monopod - It's never had a camera on it but it make a great walking stick. I got one of those screw on knobs from 7dayshop.com

My Seculine electronic spirit level. Used it 3/4 times when I got it but never remember it. Trouble is I could do with it at times but too much faff. Went to use it the other day and the battery was flat :D

monopod - used once then given away - probably better than a baseball bat though as you would have an excuse for carrying one
