Tip: Links open in small window.

Internet Explorer has always had this really annoying problem with links suddenly opening in a very small window.  I've found the same problem in IE7 and IE6, and now in IE8.  Here's how to cure it.

1. Close all Internet Explorer windows except for one.
2. Right click on any link in the page and select (Open in New Window).
3. Close the first browser window using the (X) in the top right corner.
4. Resize the window manually by dragging the sides to fill the screen. Don't click the Maximise button, you have to do it manually.
5. Hold down the Ctrl key and click the (X) in the top right corner, to close that window.

Hopefully when you open the browser and try the link again it should open a nice big window as it used to.

Thought I'd post that, because it happened to me over the last couple of days.  Not sure what causes it, but it drives me nuts when it does.

I _think_ it's because it opens a new window the same size as the last one that the app opened (window rather than tab).  So if your last window was a Napster player or more likely a spamvert then it's going to look pretty stupid.

It's even possible that a page tried to open a spamvert but was prevented by your blocker but stoopid IE still used it for sizing.

Your probably right Jonathan.   You'd think though, when you open a window and stretch it out to the desired size then closing it, it would remember it.  But no.

As an aside to this discussion - what is the benefit of opening in a new window as opposed to a new tab?

Tongue firmly in cheek. I've seen it once or twice I think, but never use it.
