That will take some getting used to!  You probably cannot lock them either.
Maybe a relic from the communist era? After all, in those days people often had to share tiny apartments with two, sometimes three families. They may have had communal loos too.

At Hampton Court they try and give a historical twist to the place by suggesting that the walls have witnessed some amazing events over time by posting signs saying, 'If Only Walls Could Talk'. On using the facilities I noticed they had even put a couple up in the urinals, and the mind boggles at what those wall could perhaps tell.

I wonder if Henry hung out there!
