I didn't go back to read older posts on this subject, but, if I remember correctly, Mick is snowed under (or maybe rained on?) with work commitments, and hasn't been around much. Hence no IOTW.

Sorry Dave, I read this earlier and meant to come back to it.  The IOTW will return, just had to put it on hold for a while, as time was against me work wise.  Work is still hectic, in fact I've not seen it so busy at this time, normally dead as a dodo from the beginning of August.

I'm the only one who can edit the IOTW block without giving someone else full admin permissions.  I'm going to look into that a bit further. Also, Roger never came back to choose a pic.  This is another problem we have which needs fixing.

Mick, maybe the 'chosen one' should recommend a  first and second choice for the next IOTW? If there is no new suggestion forthcoming, the second choice can be the next week's choice.
Does this make sense? And is it workable?

I will repeat myself again. 
The IOTW should come from those shots submitted that week, hence IOTW.
This way an image will be from someone who has been actually active and then we have more chance of him/her being around to select the next one. 

Or, as someone suggested earlier, use the weekly comp image as IOTW. Easy peasy and  no prompting required

I agree that a recent image would be best. It would possibly encourage more people to upload pictures, and thus create more interest.

Only a few people participate in the weekly competitions, so that would limit the possibilities.

What about the rules as before when the previous weeks winner chooses the next one, if one is not selected then ask that weeks competition winner to choose one? Alternatively get the competition winner to choose the IOTW as part of their "prize" for winning the competition?

Previous IOTW winner chooses the next from images uploaded in the past month, if no image has been chosen by the end of Monday then the weekly comp winner is IOTW. That way there will be no need to chase anyone for a choice, either the previous winner chooses a picture or the weekly comp winner is automatically posted.

I agree,
Choosing from the past 3 to 4 weeks seems very sensible, providing a wider scope to choose from. As is, the auto selection of the winning shot from weekly comp if the previous IOTW has not provided their choice. I also do not have a problem if the IOTW is chosen from a current entry in the weekly comp or a current Serif comp; simply as photography is subjective to personal likes etc., and everyones idea of a good shot is not necessarily the same.
