Sony A350

Well thanks to my sensor faux pas, and it not being recoverable without shelling out at minimum $300 cdn. I decided to pickup a used A350 from our equivalent of Jessops (talking size not service or knowledge). Been humming and hawing about it for about a month. Had the cash and a bag full of Minolta lenses so it was pretty easy decision. I must say I'm impressed with the clarity from the sensor, but IMHO that liveview thingy is a complete bust. I tested it out on an overcast day and even with the brightness cranked right up I could hardly make out the screen.

My MkIII has live view - and apart from using it to calibrate my lenses, I don't think I've used it in anger.

Mind you mine is MF only, so its really a tripod job only - probably good for studio or macro.

It was Macro I had in mind when I bought it. But if I can't see the screen in daylight, and I shoot my Macro stuff outdoors at the local Botannical Garden it's seem to be ill suited for the job.

Have the same thing on the D3 but never used it. Perfer to use the viewfinder. 
If you need it for macro then you will need a cloth, to cover your head and the camera so you can see the screen.

Duh, how stupidly obvious was that? I feel like a real twit.  I guess it's the old can't see the forest for the trees thing, so focused on looking forward that I forget the old tried and true. Maybe I'll build a wooden box with a big clear ring on the front mount my Sony in it and pretend I'm really retro.

After two weeks with this A350 I'm of two minds. I like the camera, size wise nice to hold. Now that I've got a handle on it I'm seeing limitations to some of my old Minolta lenses. Still don't see any good use for the live view, but haven't had a chance at trying any Macro yet. I've shut off the steady shot feature, I was using it to compensate for the 2 f-stop loss you get using a teleconvertor and I honestly don't think it works. I am however enjoying playing with it, haven't touched my Nikon since getting it. I'm saving for a used Tamron AF 90mm, but with my luck even though it's been in the camera shop for months, it'll get sold the day before I have enough money.

Spinner I bought the A350 back in May (twin lens kit/bag/memory card all from Jessops for £523) and I am loving it, I know what you mean about the live view in bright light, however I did find it was REALLY useful when I went to Kew Gardens a couple of months ago, they were having their Summer Swing which was basically the Counterfeit Stones and The Bootleg Beatles playing. VERY VERY Useful having a pull down screen, hold the camera above your head, pull the screen down hey presto....there was a couple of CANIK users having all sorts of problems seeing what they were trying to shoot....I'll try and post some shots at some point keep with it, I think it just takes a bit of getting used to and is a little "clunky" but I like that about it

I'm saving for a used Tamron AF 90mm, but with my luck even though it's been in the camera shop for months, it'll get sold the day before I have enough money.

Get down there, explain the position and see if they will take a deposit to hold it for you....
