Ok. I had a spare 10 mins. this morning, so I donned the disguise and went and had a snoop.
I got to the thread about "Iv'e got three grands worth of gear, can someone tell me how to take a picture of 11 men standing still in three rows?" and suddenly rememberd I had some ironing to do!

I looked in...got as far as the riots thread...and lost the will to live.... ::)

Maybe I should have a look in; I never get beyond the Competition thread.
Haven't even seen the soccer thing; it must be very interesting as it attracts attention here!

Thinking of returning there - at least there's more activity and many more photos!  :legit:
Whatever and ever. Amen

'Dead body' comes to mind when thinking of that place.
Here, you learn things, you get honest opinions, you get real help - and you don't get threatened with having your name removed off the list if you make  suggestion as to how things could be improved, or point out that somethings not working.

Not got enough activity for you? Invite some others to join in. Let's get a 1000 members. A 1000 members on this site will comfortably 100,000 members on the other site.
Oh and for the record, one of those members is supposed to be me! so make that 58,999 actual members - as opposed to 'listed' members.

There are a dozen or more members of this site tried to help them get it working properly - and these are people who know what they're talking about. I still have my e-mail telling me to wind my neck in and stay out of it - because i didn't know as much about developing a web site as some 22 year old with a degree in hair dressing or using MS Word, let alone camera (i found it the other day when i was having a clear out). All i said was listen to these people who do actually know what they're talking about because some of them do it for a living!

More chance of Gaddafi running Libya next year than me going to that place! (how topical is that?) :uglystupid2:

Markulous

Wasn't suggesting anyone else should, just stating what I thought I might be doing - I'm on way smaller sites than this one with much more activity and yes, much better quality so you really can't use that one!

I used to load photos there but got fed up as nobody looks at the photos.I do look at the forums from time to time as there are a few people who will answer your question(and it's the same people all the time).
P.S. A lot of them are on here now!
I post my photos here,Flickr and www.ephotozine as they are the best places for feedback.

Well it's a free country and we all like different things. I think it was about 2003 I joined the DCMag site but things move on and the new incarnation might have lots of extras but just does'nt quite work as well. Does'nt quite have that community feel - and I really hate it when people jump in with sarcastic responses to what might or might not be serious questions without giving the benefit of the doubt or ignoring the thread.  Comparisons - a bit like Macdonalds v a little local cafe ...

You mean you prefer burgers to cream teas!  :P

greypoint

er  no..I'm strictly a cream teas person myself...don't eat burgers or frequent fast food places ... might have the odd meal of fish and chips  ;)

I won't be joining in over there again.

The site seems to suffer from it's own version of Godwin's law - it's not five minutes before someone who has just bought the latest Cankon as their first ever camera aggressively wades in to just about any thread.

I have been looking at the weekend comp entries recently, and there it definitely is quantity over quality. I reckon that most people would bin the larger part of the entries let alone post them in a competition.

But a lot of people seem to be having fun, and that's what it's all about. Just not what it used to be, and not my cup of tea.

But I think the main point is that pr is a large commercial site where you'd expect lots of input and lots of people contributing. This is more of a small community of mainly grumpy people trying to make sense of things and help each other out without taking it too seriously. Perhaps everyone should make a pledge to start a new discussion, upload a picture and comment on at least 3 others.....today

Very regularly, I think Mark (Cutter)'s entry is the only 'proper' quality photograph, but no one else seems to see it.

I'm still trying to win there, and not getting very far. Not saying I have the best entries every time, but sometimes mine are, in my 'modest' opinion, better than some that get more votes. Must admit I've got a bee in my bonnet about the whole thing; I'm convinced some people vote 'with their heart' rather than their eye. Or maybe they know even less about photography than I.

"Just not what it used to be" I couldn't agree more! Still missing the proper entries and critiques!
