I have just read a posting on another forum where the author has written quite a long piece, which could have been a reasonably interesting read.

However, the english was so bad it was almost unreadable.

Now, I don't always write the best, but I do try and read what I have written and at least get the spelling something close and add punctuation and actually check to make sure that someone else could understand it.

I know english is not always the authors first language and sometimes they do have problems such as dyslexia etc, but I don't think this was that. It was just plain sloppy.

I'm not going to name names either as I think they post on here too!

I must say that things like that do bug me  I think that your point can lose impact when your spelling, punctuation etc are lazy or sloppy) I know its not the be all and end all but the least you can do is read back before you send the post. Mind you I was a school governor and some of the cv's  we were exposed to, by prospective teachers, would make you shudder!

It disturbs me greatly, as I have posted on other forums, mostly political, how the internet has given unfettered access to morons to voice their opinions. And while the two don't necessarily go together it is  not surprising that a moronic opinion is accompanied by atrocious spelling and grammar.

How many have come to rely on spell checkers and grammar checkers to sort out our ramblings, whilst we concentrate on content?

No excuse some of you will no doubt say - but - and it's a big but. It is a sign of our times - nearly all of us use them at some point.
And to compound things even more - they all seemed determined to default to US English which is, in my opinion, an almost other language that should be called American.

If we were corrected in "English" instead of "American" we might just get familiar with a badly spelled word!

I've never used a spell checker etc. on a PC. I rely on what I learnt all those years ago. Which means, at my advanced age, I sometimes get things wrong. Some years ago I did an OU course on 19c Religion and used a word processor which I could never get to recognise words like latitudinarian and I got so frustrated I've never bothered since!

My grammar isn't 100%, and I've got a weblog to prove it. Gotta admit though, the triple-comma phenomena is something that's baffled me as well.
