Even a search engine doesn't help, and an article that from the title purports to answer the question doesn't even attempt to. I gather that it's colourless. The nearest similar item seems to be that Peugeot named their latest diesel engines with "blue" in the name - connection or coincidence?

I'm not sure why it's called that, but from what I've read Adblue is just a tradename registered by the German car manufacturers association.  I think you'll find the same stuff under different names as well. It's what they call a (DEF) = Diesel Exhaust Fluid.

Just don't let the tank become empty, although I think you can carry on driving when it runs out, it won't let you restart it until you fill up. Not sure if that applies to all vehicles using the system.

Our new (to us) car is a Peugeot 3008 diesel, which is my first introduction to Adblue - and there's a story to that! given that this thread is about being bemused, I'll just skip straight to the great question on my mind - where does that name come from? I have now bought a Kia Nero EV - I went to look at them last weekend at a dealership - they had 4 in stock - 2 older models and 2 newer ones. Looked at the old one first - it had done about 40k miles and was black about 2020. Was a bit meeh - the satnag screen was badly scratched. Then looked at a 2022 White one - which is the new shape - and was so much nicer. And a lot more money. Why is it I have initial ideas of budget and when I go to get something blow it!  :uglystupid2:

Among other things, I'm a member of the Orkney Archaeological Society. Today, I received a newsletter/email about some online talks, but ending with a suggestion to travel to Orkney in September for an actual meeting at Sanday School. Sanday is a separate island to Mainland (where Kirkwall and Stromness are) so I looked up travel to Sanday. DuckDuckGo pointed me to sandayorkney.co.uk, where the "How to get to Sanday" begins:

Sanday is one of the most northerly of the Orkney Islands, a ferry ride or a flight away from the Kirkwall on the Orkney mainland.  Getting here involves a variety of transport, but don't be daunted by it ? take your time and make it all part of the adventure.

So far, clear and relevant. However, the paragraph then makes a small detour (!) continuing:

Your best option is to use a taxi from Sofia airport to anywhere in Bulgaria. Your airport transfer driver will meet you at the airport terminal with a nameplate and drive directly to your destination.

Following this, it details ferries from Kirkwall...

In France you have to carry a spare set of bulbs - exemption being Xenon bulbs due to the potential for electric shock (I've changed them, its not hard!) - but as said, most cars are a nightmare to change bulbs on - having to remove wing liners and having double joints arms like twigs!

Best car I've owned for changing bulbs was my old Landrover Discovery - headlights had two clips which allowed the complete unit to be removed and the bulbs changed in the comfort of the car or the house!

I'm getting a "new" car soon - I'm retiring (Well semi) and the car on salary sacrifice is going back so a new car is needed - trying to work out what is best to get. My first thought (I want an EV for a few reasons!) is something that just has a few miles range - 100 as I rarely do more than that round trip and cost a couple of grand - but that has morphed as when we go on holiday - usually UK - we drive and need a bit more range. So have gone through a few options, MG5, Peugeot 2008 and now I think I've settled on a Kia Nero. My current car is an Enyaq - so big and I really don't need a car that big anymore - kids have their own car so if they join us, sometimes bring it too.

So as this is the bemused thread, its the difference in cost of the "same" thing.

Same as Stephen, I don't have a favourite time - anytime is good - having said that, mid summers in the middle of the day outside can be a challenge but purely on a practical level!

Agreed about bulbs should be easy to change. I remember being able to change a headlight bulb without even needing a screwdriver- in fact, years ago I used to carry a spare.

Some years back, I recall that to change a bulb in the dashboard on the car we had then required taking the whole front off  - a classic £100 labour, 60p parts...

Congrats on the new car Steven, sounds like a good excuse to me.  Mind you, some cars you have to strip most of the front off just to get to the headlight bulb which is ridiculous, it should be something anyone can do on the side of the road.

A week or so ago, Sue showed me an article which detailed things that Gen whatever-they-are (I get lost with all these new fangled terms  :) ) can't do and leave to the experts. One of the relatively common items was changing a light bulb...

Well, I just found myself unable to change a light bulb when the nearside headlight and sidelight failed on our car. Naturally, when in that position, the only thing to do was to get a new car...

And although the above paragraph is correct and accurate, like a politician's statement it's completely misleading. The car in question is a Renault Scenic which we bought new back in 2007. The light bulb failure was due to water entering the light, and corroding the connections. Renault no longer supply parts for the vehicle, so it would be a case of scouring scrap yards or ebay for the parts. Given that our garage also reported wear on the bushes (naturally, parts no longer available  >:( ) it seemed a new car was required. Amazingly, we found one on the day that the garage, having tried and failed to find alternatives for all the parts needed, reported that the car had basically reached end of life.

So, new car tomorrow, as I couldn't change a light bulb.
