Found out about the new Google Image Search Feature,
So far Ive found 37 of my images that have been stolen now, its beyond a joke, its a full time job finding out contact emails, many of the sites are travel, travel agents, sports, although I dont do sports so why they used my images I no ideas, newspapers, fruit merchants, and many more, I even found one that someone had used it for a diploma course in the USA, and now their website they are professional wedding and portrait photographers, thats besides the multitude of blogs Ive found using my images,
Ive spent all afternoon and night yesterday, most of the morning and nearly all afternoon today and probably tonight as well, I think I'll need to take an assistant soon Clicky Linky (http://holidays-revealed.blogspot.com/) to my blog
How to search find the image you want to search for, in a new window, then from a separate window click google then Image, drag your image into the search bar and off google goes looking for images that match yours, see image below

It works great as well, all I need do now is write a letter and send my invoices out, and see what happens
Just out of curiosity, as I may have missed a part of the story here, what made you look in the first place?

Blog sites Ive just been asking for a credit or for the image ro be removed
Commercial sites send them an unauthorised use and an invoice if they wish to continue to use your image.
why should they get away with using our images for nothing no one gave us our cameras, paid for us to go to get the shots in the first place, we had to pay so should they especially if their making cash of our images

I just did a quick search of your image its on lots of sites facebook,blogs.forums,
would take a bit of time to check all of your good ones but worth it
Yet to find one of mine being used.
I agree those that are using other's images should sort things out.
1. It is only polite to ask the originator, photographer.
2. Blog or commercial use makes no difference, at the end of the day, without permission of use it is quite simply theft :knuppel2: although I guess these 'users' may argue that without a © mark on the pictures they assumed it to be in the public domain and therefore free for one and all.
3. Send them all a big bill, along with terms and conditions so you can claim interest on unpaid invoices.
4. It is about time that the ISP's assisted by agreeing to provide sufficient details to enable legal action where sites are not disclosing true addresses online.

I don't think my sofa is facing north :D I don't get it, can you explane how to search one more.
Bob, this doesn't seem to work in IE8. so I used Firefox. What I did. Open a window in firefox, and browsed to one of my pics in the gallery, clicked the thumb to open it to intermediate size.
Grab the side of that window to make it half width of your screen.
Open a new window in firefox, (not a new tab) and go to google, click images. Drag this window half width of your screen. Then drag the image you opened into the image search on the other page. Fingers crossed it'll work.

Please note !! I am very careful to only submit my photographs onto the Internet with © and my name. (The only time this has not been done is when I have uploaded an image into a competition without such marks at the request of the competition organisation).
Fortunately this particular pic has only been in two competitions. The first one being run by Future / PhotoRadar and I have already noted that this was, is indeed the source because of the wording and date on all the many blog websites. :knuppel2:
Interesting to see my Antics piccy of the ant on the bracken furl is on quite a few sites that physically means that the competition organisation are not looking after my property in the manner they express in their rules.
Time to dig deeper and sort this breach of my © property.
Well, I had a quick look, and it seems that nothing I've done is worth nicking.
Also, I searched for images that I know have been used on bloggs (the authors asked, that's how I know) and the picture search didn't show up any of them. So it doesn't look too reliable; possibly the ones that you have found so far are just the tip of the iceberg.
I'm going to start uploading my pictures in the creative commons. That'll teach 'em.
Images I have found of mine are uauall credted to me via my website. Since they are only 500x425 they are no good to any one and any otheres are 800x 600 medium res. Not much good for printing
That's why I can't find any, as I only load reduced images on Flickr etc. :doh:
Mine you I've only done a search on a few and it returns images that aren't anything like mine? ???

Thanks for explaining Mick, Ive been out all day and just got back in,
I always put Copyright on the border of my images and on the ones I think will be nicked i put a watermark on the image its self, some of the sites I have found have cut my border off and some have removed the copyright from on the image some have just removed the border and left the CR across the image,
All mime are fairly low res no good for printing a decent size but still good enough for the website use,, most but not all have been nicked from flickr others are from my website

I read about this in one of the mags this week, not tried it myself.
I just had a go, you can just drag a photo from your PC into the Google Image box. I'm not sure if I'll be more annoyed at people ripping mine off or not finding any!
There is a similar site that has been around for quite a long while and may give better results http://www.tineye.com/
Colin, I've already got the tineye plugin on my browser, so you can right click a image and it will check it in the tineye database.. It has never found anything though, including my image that google found. I guess it will eventually. ;)
Edit: Actually tried it again, and it has found one image. But not the same one as google. So I'd recommend trying both methods. I do like the tineye plugin though, it's a easier way to check by just right clicking the image. Google need a plugin like this. ;)

Me, too. Don't know whether to be relieved or heartbroken. :'( I'm especially hurt that I plugged in a piccy of a bright red Cardinal and asked it to search similar and it gave back a pic of a big rock. :o
I tried a few likely suspects and nothing came back so I am either crap or uploading images too small to bother with. Tried a few that I knew were being used on some blogs / sites and they did not come up either so odd! ???

I have been selling stock images through ALAMY for the past year and Tineye has never thrown up any used images, however after reading Dave's post and using Google image search i found 3 unreported sales being used by on-line newspapers so thanks Dave :tup: :tup: :beer:

Hope your sending them a rather large bill
I did a search of one of my best images last night and Ive found it to being used on multiples sites on selling music, rhey didnt even bother removing my watermark, as an album cover, Clicky Linky (http://www.flickr.com/photos/davenjulie/2251602685/) to see my image
It cost me thousands to go to the location in Thailand, a long-tail boat to a remote beach, a trek through a rain forest and hike 450 meters up a steep mountain pass, to the cave entrance then 200 metre climb down into the heart of the cave, just for the shot, all that and some scrotes think they can use the image to make them cash, dont think so, large invoice heading their way

Ive got my letter sorted out now, with the help from a friend who has a degree in business law and a friend who is a business consultant, All I need do now is collate all the evidence of unauthorised use and send it out along with invoices and further use invoices

Looking through the images that it finds as similar, I'm of the opinion that the algorithm is based on colour content in the image and not any recognition technique.

Just tried an image on both Tiny and Google, Tiny returned nothing whilst Google returned this?

Those other images are mine on flickr? The first image is the test image which had been used by another site with my permission but neither returned a hit. ???
I know I've got of my dog pics on sites all over the place - some with permission, some I found out about when they were linked to flickr and clicked on. Tested a few that I know are on other sites but only got a couple of positives.

Yeah GP, its finding the unauthorised use, I darent try any more of mine yet, its gonna take me a week to collate evidence personalize each letter, and send all the invoices :dance: / evidence,( screnshots, download pages, for further evidence, Ive sent 3 off now. then I'll check the rest
funny I dont seem to get replies on forums for my shots but so many have been nicked lots which I have posted not just on here but other tog forums, I cant understand it they are wanted by peps, so why do I not get comments, doesnt equate (inserts: "thinking smley", if we had one on here, but we aint)

Maybe you need to be more selective where you post Dave - especially if you can tell the source of the theft. I am guessing your invoices are being met with them taking them down rather than a payment. I post less and less on flickr etc and it is always small files but don`t like to put a watermark on.
I started posting small size to Flickr a long time ago and it does help stop them being copied, the down side is that folks can't see them at thier best. I did find a few though even at 1024*768.

They will probably take them down but, will still have to pay up for unauthorised use, as they have used the images in the first place

That's been up on Flickr for a week and I'd be amazed if it hasn't been "borrowed" somewhere by now.

First 3 are the image itself on Flickr then there's a picture of a cow that isn't mine. Couple more are mine and one is of me. Looking closely it looks like Google is searching on the tags which would get stripped if somebody grabbed it from Flickr in most obvious ways.
Re the unauthorised use invoice......this really annoys me. A company can either pay for the image or use it illegally, hope they don't get an invoice and if they do just take it down. Copyright has become a joke. [FWIW you are not allowed to add any extra cost to the invoice because they didn't ask - you really aren't]
As for comments on pics....we all know that has nothing to do with how good an image is, right?
Jonathan, I thought it would a good experiment to put one of your images on my flickr and see if it tracked it. When I opened your image I was not allowed to download it as you have restricted access to it ( Well done ) so the best I could have done would be a screen shot.
