Oak Apple

Wasp gall, or Oak Apple. The largest one I have seen (approx 3.5 cm diam) in our wood, and looking very much like an apple.

Yup all the rest in the tree are acorn size. I am watching this one carefully to try and capture the wasp if it emerges?
