Forgotten Hero

This is George, who served on board HMS Somali (F33), while she was engaged in the Arctic Convoys. In constant danger of the elements, and German U boats, the crews fought hard to keep the supply lines to Russia open. George left this destroyer in 1942, and on the next trip she was torpedoed.
These brave people were largely forgotten, only the Russians acknowledged their bravery early on. The British government is only now awarding medals.

Someone you sit next to on a bus, a gentle face that hides extremes of a turbulent and horrific past. The gentle angle of the head makes for a great picture.
