I like the general composition. For me, the shadow across the forehead from fill in flash distracts, and I wonder whether the camera Auto Focus focused in on the high contrast area of grasses rather than the beautiful smile - Did you use a Face Detection setting?

I don't see a shadow over her forehead; what do you mean? I don't think I used a face detection setting, as far as I'm aware, I have my camera in 'neutral,' with aperture priority. I think I did focus on her face though, but I cannot be sure. I use my old Sony bridge for my volunteering photos, as it copes better with close ups, but I have lost 'touch' with it, and its settings a bit.

Embarrassed My humble apology Reinardina, I should have enlarged it (beyond first click) and I should clean my screen more often against finger grease marks Embarrassed , as at first glance I thought I detected shadow of spectacle lenses.

Great shot for me - just needs a little shallower depth of field and to have the fork / hand in shot to stop your eyes wandering off but otherwise great environmental portrait.

I thought you saw something I couldn't see, Andy. (Which happens regularly acctually!)

Maybe I should have used a shallower depth of field, but it wasn't really a posed shot. I just shot her in between shooting other activities, without adjusting the camera.

I like this. The flash has done a real good job in balancing the light. With a bridge camera you will always struggle more to get shallower DOF.

Thanks Simple. I did not even think of depth of field to be honest. I'm still not a proper photographer.
