Hi Dave! Thanks for the offer, I'm flattered. I haven't worked out how everything works on this site, Don't know yet how to enter or vote, and people 'jumping in' without testing the water first, is one of the causes everything went pearshaped on PR. That said, if someone would volunteer to set up the threads and poll, in the unlikely event of my entry being the winning one, I'd be happy to enter. (I can probably think of a new challenge myself, once I've had a look at what has already been done.) Thanks for asking!

A very nice composition :tup: (although I hope you do not mind me saying, the out of vertical alignment is more apparent because of the reflection aspect, and catches my eye a wee bit distracting from the overall serenity of the shot)

Andy, you should know I don't mind you commenting on any of my pictures. I've relied on your advice often enough. This time however, I simply do not see what you mean. Can you explain? Either here or in an email?

In theory natural water is recognised as being near to horizontal or level (except over falls etc.). Reflection generally enters the eye, camera lens directly, and accordingly, there is an effective line of symetry at the point where objects rise out of the water. A vertical post will provide a vertical reflection; while the reflection of one leaning at a slant, will be a mirrored image of that angle. The other shot River Itchen with the Weeping willow tree looks spot on

Thanks gentlemen! Now that you've pointed it out, I can see it too. I'm an expert at accidental Dutch angles; because of my nationality I suppose, and also because of my (literal) blind spot. I'll pay extra attention to water surfaces in future and correct/replace this picture once the competiton is over.

Perhaps the Dutch angle actually works, providing an at odds - man made structures in Nature. :tup: :tup:

The angle is always pure, good quality, solid Dutch; it's always the photo that doesn't seem to fit.
