Revamped shot

Many moons ago, I posted this pic (back in 2008 I think.....ouch!!). Mick suggested adjusting levels to bring the shot out. Now I'm very new to photo editing and have loads to learn, but would welcome any comments here as to whether I'm on the right lines in this edit. Slate if it's not, I need to start doing this sort of thing!! Please compare to the other copy of this pic in my gallery. Thanx!!!
