Thirty, forty years ago, they were considered family dogs. I knew a dog trainer once, who was 're-educating' two of these 'heavies' that belonged to a little old lady. She had spoilt them so much, they did not listen to her anymore, and she could therefore not take them out anymore. Till they were retrained that is. And they lived happily ever after.
